My harmonium’s no-go.
Or,
after all these days
of hearing me singing,
it has finally learned
to sing of its own.
Though I, like a king
expects of his wife,
have always expected it
to sing my songs.

I have, at times, (as
Rilke had) wanted to be
shattered by its
‘rhythmical furies’.

So now it laughs,
with its black and white teeth,
at me and sings beneath
my helpless fingers.

Reminds me a bit of the song by Marlene Dietrich a couple of lines from which (as best I remember):

They call me naughty Lola
The meanest girl on earth.
I play my pianola
For all that it's worth!

But there's nothing naughty about this (unless I missed it). On the other hand it's light and amusing.
