Hi, I've just finished chapter 2 of Ellowen Deeowen (The Satanic Verses - Salman Rushdie), and I'm a little confused as to the ending. Rosa clearly states that Aurora Del Sol is responsible for the murder of Martin de La Cruz: "She did it", "after betraying him with the Vulture and making him into a murderer. He wouldn't look at her after that. Oh she did it alright. Very dangerous one , that one. Very."
However there are several accounts of the murder itself, including one in which Rosa stabs him, one in which he is shot by Don Enrique, and one in which Aurora Del Sol is responsible. Since the vision is eminating from Rosa, should her account be taken as truth, i.e. Aurora kills Martin? What's confusing is that the narrator discounts several versions of what happens, finally residing with "....This way: here!" describing Don Enrique arriving and taking aim with a pistol.
Whodunnit!?
I'm also at a loss as to the significance of Gabreel leaving and being tempted into the boat house, by who? Rosa? Help!
