another
gray day
finds her
watching march snowflakes
falling in spirals
as though winter will never end
listless
boredom rules in her mind
she has spent great amounts of time
on very little
schoolwork
letting her mind wander
to the ends of the earth
before
calling it back
from the endless
troubles
of the universe-
virtues of courage and
self-discipline
how to love
the unloveable
how to shine
in a very dark world
finding no answers
she turns back to her work
wondering why
she has devoted
so little
time
to her maker
how to fit it all in
when she has nothing
to do
nothing
nothing at all
or perhaps
she has a lot of algebra
or chemistry
left to finish
she wonders what
as she watches the snow and sky
change from gray
to blue
courses
she should do
next year
11th grade
college courses
but still high school too
looking
for theology books
should she study physics
will she ever
finish
by may
she needs a friend
to talk to
but she has none
to turn to
not now
none
not on thursdays in march
her pencil
rests in her hand
she stares at her page
no words come
her page is still
empty
waiting
she thinks of all
that must be done
hopes the concert
goes well on saturday
that lifeguard training
can be
made up
soon
will she
really be a
good
lifeguard
what if
she
doesn't know
what to do
what if
she fails
she wants to be smart
but she forgets
her schoolwork
so quickly
meaningless
meaningless
everything is meaningless
hopes
goals
dreams
why
there aren't enough
filled circles
for this week
so much work
but no time
she has so much
of nothing
to do
nothing is meaningless
as darkness
covers the land
she lays down her pencil
with no more
answers
than before
