I've been gone awhile, and quite frankly, I don't know why. Anyways, hi! If you couldn't tell by my name, one of my favorite books is Jane Eyre. I'm a book lover, and I'm currently volunteering at my local library, hoping to become an employee once our new (bigger!) one is finished and open.

What I last checked out of the library:

At Home in Mitford-Jan Karon
Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress: Tales of Growing up Groovy and Cluless-Susan Jane

Three Cups of Tea: One Mans' Mission to Promote Peace--One School at a Time-Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin

Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: and Other Things I've Learned-Alan Alda

And I've got Me: Stories of my Life-Katharine Hepburn, but I've finished it, and now my grandma is reading it.

Though I'm new, just thought I would say--- welcome back!!! :D

It's nice to meet both of you. I'm relatively new, also. I never took the trouble of introducing myself.
Jane Eyre is one of my favourite books, too, by the way. :)

nice to meet you as well Sarasvati... that's an interesting name, and a beautiful avatar... what instrument is that?? a flute? I really cannot tell... :)

Why thank you; your photos are impressive as well. While I would like to learn the flute, the picture is of a clarinet.
Sarasvati is the Hindu goddess of all arts: dancing, singing, music, painting, drawing--all of my loves in life.
You are quite the climber--I saw the pictures. Do you really live on an island?

Not only arts, but of any knowledge. :)

I had a friend who would keep all her books in front of the godess Saraswati idol during exam time, and worship her to pass her exams :)

Welcome to the forums, everyone

Ah, yes, I forgot that part. :)

I don't worship her; I just took her name :)

thanks Madhuri... :)

Thank you Sarasvati..:) and to think I took religion courses at University.. I can't believe I forgot that... *Goes and bangs his head on wall and wonders where his memory went.. then realizes the memories might be falling out of his ears, so he resolves to wear earplugs from now on* :D

I like your interests, they are in line with my own... I love the arts.. I wish I played an instrument even slightly well.. I play guitar but I am terrible as I never practice enough...

At the moment no... I grew up on a little island off Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada.. kind of funny, eh... an island off an island.. but at the moment I am living far away because of work.. but I can't wait to go back...:)

among the music notes must be a fantastic place to be...:D

That's alright; I forget things I should know all the time. :) And if you wear earplugs all the time, then you won't be able to hear music...I'd rather lose information than not hear music, I think. :)

I used to be able to play a bit of guitar, but I've completely forgotten how. I'm sure you're better than you think. :) Acoustic or electric?

Canada is GORGEOUS. That is funny--an island off of an island. It would be sad to move away. It -is- sad to move away from a place you love.

yep, life without music woudl be awful... it is one of the greatest pleasure I find..

I really am no good.. see I should be practicing right now, instead of being on here, but sometimes I procrastinate.. it is one of those things where you just want to skip the learning phase :D

Canada is wonderful.. I assume you've been here before?? What country are you from??

Oh, that's okay :)

When I first saw your name I thought you were from India :) .

A world without music would be very empty.

I know what you mean--I'm not very good, either. I should really practice a lot more than I do. Not on the clarinet so much, but I could really use to practice on the saxophone. But it's like you said, I want to skip the learning phase. :)

I've driven through and spent some time in Canada; I love it in that region. Do you still live in Canada now? I'm from the United States.

I'm sure you are better than you suggest... :) But I guess we both need to practice and stop our wishful thinking about magically getting better overnight... :p

Yeah, I still live here... But I'm in Ontario right now... an hour or so north of Toronto by cottage country... it is nice still, but nothing like the west coast... The pacific coast of British Columbia is so wonderful... I love it so much... the whole west coast of North America is prett amazing for that matter... what state are you from? is it nice? I've been to most states, the US is quite a beautiful country as well!!:)

But it's so much easier to dream of magically getting better...:P

I'm sure it's still gorgeous there. Nothing beats the coast, though, of anywhere, really. I live in a tourist trap-- the dream vacation place for nearly everyone. It's pretty.... I'm originally from Alaska, and nothing compares to that. I miss the mountains...and the hiking...and mountain biking...That kind of mountainous, HUGE, awe-inspiring beauty can't be found anywhere else. What do you do for work that it pushed you off of your island-off-the-island?

And yes, I must say, among the music notes is a marvelous place to be. :P

Alaska is nice... but too cold for me I think... at least at times... I like Vancouver Island, because we have the mountains, and the old growth massive forests... and then the the ocean right there... I love how in the winter it stays above freezing and fairly moderate year round on the island...

but still, I will admit Alaska is so beautiful.. awe-inspiring, just as you say... I went there once when I was a lot younger... it really was so beautiful... I want to go there again someday...

You like Mountain Biking and Hiking!?!?!?!?!?! A fellow outdoors enthusiast!!!!!!!!! I love Mountain Boking, and hiking even more!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to hike the pacifc crest trail sometime in the next few years... 2700 km and mostly in the wilderness from Mexico to Canada... and then "Great Continental DIvide trail would be amazing too... Through the Rockies from Mexico all the way up to north of Jasper, BC... But the ultimate would be hiking from Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, all the way down the west coast of North America to Patagonia... something 25000 km... that would be so sweet and epic... I really want to do it someday... :D

Ooo, I love the cold. I liked Alaska for the mountains, mostly, but you could see the ocean from the city. 20 minute drive, and there it was. *sigh*... I want to go back sometime also. It was pretty warm in the summer--70s on good days. Those were few and far between, though. :)

I love biking and hiking! I've never done anything super big, but I enjoy it all the same. I've mostly hiked in the little mountains close to town in alaska, and around here, also. It would be awesome to do something worth mentioning, especially the Prudhoe Bay trail.

So we've established the arts and outdoor activities as interests, what else do you enjoy?

It's not that it is too cold I guess. As I love ice climbing, and snowboarding, and climbing mountains.. it is just I like to pick and choose when I am in the super cold, so it is nice on vancouver island ( i do celsius here in canada but I will try to convert) that down out of the mountains it doesn't go much below 35 f most of the winter... the mountains are much colder of course... and then in the summer I hate super hot... I like more moderate.. like not much more than 75 or 80 f is perfect in the summer...

other things, eh.. I didn't know there were other things in life besides the arts and the outdoors.... hmm... I really love to cook, being a vegan and all, it really helps... as otherwise meals are pretty boring... I love red wine... love love red wine.. and champagne, though it is far too expensive.. you know, now that I think about it, there aren't many things that I'm interested in that can be classified outside the arts (music, film, literature, etc), and the outdoors that I have an interest in... Even my work I consider an art to some degree, as I build custom handcrafted log and timberframe homes... it is somewhat of an art form in and of itself... oh, I love to travel, though usually with relation to the arts and the outdoors again :p haha... everything I love has to do with the outdoors and the arts... besides food and wine.,.. but even those are the culinary arts :p how about you?

That does sound nice to have the temperate climate and then be able to escape into the mountains. (I'm quite science-minded, so I understand Celsius.:) ) It's much too warm here--70s and 80s all the time. 35 seems too warm for winters, though...well, for me, anyway. :)

Cooking! Yay, I like cooking, too. I enjoy cooking pastries and bakery stuffs, mostly, though. I enjoy photography, though that is also an art form...I like science quite a bit, though I'm not very good at it, unfortunately. I actually really don't like red wine, but I do like champagne. I don't have it very often, though--special occasions only, really--because it does cost quite a bit. I love to travel to new places...I enjoy and play soccer...that's really all. Haha, I guess I'm mostly arts and outdoors, too. :)
