If so, what is your favorite site to do it on? LibraryThing, Goodreads, Shelfari, aNobii or BookJetty?

Here is my LibraryThing library...

Here's my shelfari, since LT isn't working for me at the moment:

I do not like shelfari, they do not reckon different versions of the books and certainly not the editions not in english.

I like shelfari better, I can put more books on there. I'm already at my 200 on LT:

Never even knew you could do this....How out of touch am I? Have started the shelfari thing and have a feeling it's about to become an obsession... (Uh-oh!)

Just curious though - what is the obsession with people recording so much about themselves online? Don't think we in Europe are as concerned with it as maybe our US counterparts are - am I wrong?

Huh...could somebody explain me the point of doing that? Because I seem to be missing it...

For the same reason that people used to keep journals of what they read/were planning to read. The human obsession with lists enters the digital age...

I am not sure about any of them outside LibraryThing, but LibraryThing will allow you to set a reading schedule by tagging your books with unread status, plan to read status, and currently reading status.

Also, it serves as networking site, and a point of contact to those who may enjoy the same literary genres as yourself, much like this website.

It is also a fun way to show a distant friend your library.

My library is on librarything (http://www.librarything.com/catalog/MirielSerinde). The username Idril was already taken so I had to go with my second choice in usernames. :( I love being able to catalogue all my books, pointless really, in many ways buy still, I enjoy it. :D

I'm obsessed with goodreads.com. It's user-friendly. I enjoy the member interaction reviews. It feels good to have my books organized online. I like to keep a visual track of what i have and what I need to get. It's fun.

It is rather interesting, though I already use a similar application on facebook called ReadingSocial. :)

This is a great idea, sonofaslan; thanks so much for pointing this site out. I knew about Goodreads, but I think your site appeals to me more. I like the way it's set up; and that's an added feature that one can mark the status of the books read, or unread or planning to read soon. Is it free to join? I will have to look into it, in the next few days. I have been wondering how to list my books and I think this might save me a lot of time; plus it's so nice to see the covers...I tend to be a visual person, so this is very attractive.

goodreads has a status bar that allows you to update what page you're on as you read along. It's free, and has a better format than librarything, imo. you'll see. It's shamelessly addicting. Like facebook.

I listed my books on LibraryThing (I'm Whifflingpin there too) - I don't know why - it seemed like a good idea when I started, and then it seemed daft, but I did it anyway.
I have used it occasionally when going round secondhand bookshops - just run off a list of my books by... so that I don't buy duplicates. Ok, I ought to know what I've got, but sometimes I get muddled between what I want and what I've got and what I've read but haven't got.

Anobii for me http://www.anobii.com/vitangelo/books
it would have been great to have something like this when I was a kid, at the time I liked to keep track of all the books I read but I never found a satisfying way to do it on paper, this digital toy is great, alas I lack the time to keep it up-to-date, there is a lot of useful options to keep track of - and comment on - your books.

I've never heard of this kind of site, and I always wanted to keep a track of books I've read. I might look into it.:thumbs_up

I could do that too. I like the idea of a swanky website though.

You haven't seen my spreadsheet!:cornut:

I can get my Anobii library as a spreadsheet in the blink of an eye, the interesting thing with these social networking websites is that sharing your library - and your tastes - gives you the chance to know readers with similar reading habits - and tastes, of course - so you can discover authors and books you might try and like. A spreadsheet is one thing, an online library is a spreadsheet and much more, I started last September and I have already come across six or seven books - that I have enjoyed reading - I would have never found otherwise.
