Sorry if this is in the wrong spot;) And for the blotched grammar of the title. I forgot to proofread before posting, and it doesn't seem to want to be edited.

How often do you guys get people asking you to write them papers for you? I had this weird thing a few weeks ago where someone AIMed me, saying he knew me from here (I didn't recognize the username he gave), and offered me money to write him a paper. I declined, but told him I'd be available to discuss things/proofread his drafts. He agreed to this, but only said "I'm lost" in the discussions when I would ask him questions, and kept pushing the fact that he had money to offer me. It got kinda annoying, and I had to block his screen name from aim. So does this happen often to anyone else, or no?

I guess this question also applies to people in your real lives asking you, too. But if you have an experience relating to this website, please share it!

I've had people ask me to write essays for them in jest, but they were not serious. On the other hand, when someone offers to pay me to do their math homework, the first words out of my mouth are "how much?" :D

Yes, I've had that twice by the same person. More often, though, I'll get a pm asking me to look over something and comment on it critically and sincerely.

Never on this site.
I don't remember ever being explicitly asked to write paper for somebody, it's more about comments/suggestions, which I don't mind.

I've gotten 2 or 3 pm's from random users I've never heard of asking to help them write essays. They didn't actually ask me to write it for them, though.

I got a pm once from someone who thought I was smart asking if I would explain his paper to him. Unfortunately, I read it several days after he needed help.

Same here. Unheard of user PMing me going "hey, I have these questions about [work/author I've never even heard of]. I sometimes don't answer, or once I told them to actually get their a** working instead of wasting time asking random people (in much more polite terms). What bothers me is that they don't know you at all and just because you're on a literature forum (I haven't even been that much into literature as of late) they ask...it's a forum and if a fairly active member contacts me then I'll see what I can do, but it's not a place where I offer my time to strangers... or anyway I'm a selfish b*tch and proud of it :P

Although for money...:D

In real life, I once was asked to take a French exam for an old friend (as in we used to be friend but we were just acquaintances at that stage), which I didn't do for fear to be found as they'd check our Uni papers (she said she would do some make up to me to make her look more like her as there are no huge differences in things like eyes and hair and a small photo can be deceving, but still I'm too scared in those cases :D). A friend of mine though was asked to do a similar thing on a similar exam for money by someone who had contacted her for private lessons :D

I don't think I've ever been asked for such in person... but then again, who's going to ask a teacher to do their homework for them... even if I am only the art teacher? On the other hand... we seem to get more than our share of postings here from new members (their one and only posting) in which they want us to answer a series of questions about this or that book... which were clearly questions assigned to them by their teacher. I too have received several PMs requesting similar "assistance". Lately, I have grown impatient with such postings... I can't understand the laziness of such students or what they propose to gain as far as learning by having others do all their work for them. I teach full time. I work as an artist regularly. I am currently taking two college courses which require me to be able to discern the various Chinese dynasties and Japanese historical periods (and their art) as well as the art of India, Meso-America, and the Middle-East. I must read the entire Shanameh in the recent translation (around 900 pages) and prepare for a term paper upon the Persian illuminated versions of this work... and I need to spend time with my family. And then I have some 16-year old high-school girl or some 19-year old college freshman twit telling me that he or she can't read Colridge's Rhime of the Ancient Mariner before Saturday? Please! :brickwall

I have had some pleas for help via PM and email, see my blog :p After being here for over 4 years I've become immune to the threads, they don't really irk me anymore, and sometimes I might actually help, if I am in the right mood!

Just take it as a compliment that any member associated with LitNet for say, more than a week, is assumed to be a vast and extraordinary wealth of information and intellect, entirely capable of doing *any* type of "school" work :D

And, just for the record... the forum rules apply to the private message (PM) system here too. If someone is sending you PMs (or emails if you have that info on your profile here) that in any way contravene the rules, you can let one of the moderators know (basically by forwarding one of the PMs to them) and, while never mentioning your name, disciplinary action will be taken with them. There have been a *number* of people here in the past abusing the ability to PM; we can't do anything about it if we are not made aware of it :)

I haven't had these big requests, just classmates that need essays or social studies papers.Just fifteen minutes ago a friend of mine asked me to do this favour to her but I declined:to tell the truth,I don't usually do other people's homework,I might simply check them and make some corrections of various natures.

When I was professionally tutoring in high school,I would get angry at those I taught or who had expressed interest in my help tried to persuade me to actually do their work for them, and for money at that.
I haven't been approached for an essay on Litnet, although I have been asked via PM to assist with particular assignments. If people are polite and want your guidance, not your work, I am happy to help :)
