Tranquility

The sea is dancing with whitecaps;
The ocean of air shipping with clouds.
I watch the porpoises flipping their tails out of the water,
Gulls sailing effortlessly—pitch—roll—yawl.
There are happy splashes out there in the rolling ocean;
One sleek chattering diver follows the next.
I watch as the gull dives for its dinner,
How he spots a fish, I couldn’t even tell.
I wonder if maybe today it will happen,
The magical moment I have wondered about all my life:
Will the bird keep going on down into the azure of the waters?
Will his wings let him fly through the liquid world just as well?
Will the aquatic mammal break free from the hold that is gravity?
Leap over and through the white fluffy clouds?

I don't know why, but as I read this I went back in my head to childhood vacations to the carolinas. In the end, it takes a magical turn:

"Will the bird keep going on down into the azure of the waters?
Will his wings let him fly through the liquid world just as well?
Will the aquatic mammal break free from the hold that is gravity?
Leap over and through the white fluffy clouds?"

I could take this several ways, which is how I like poetry to be. Kind of ambiguous, something that could mean something different to everyone who reads it. I don't know if that was your goal, but that's what it did for me. Thank you for writing this. It seems like all of the poetry on these forums have been getting better and better. Perhaps we are learning from eachother? What a wealth of knowledge we can gain from "strangers", as you put it ;)
