Just something I came up with a while ago..

I Do Not Need You

I do not need you
She said
And turned away

I do not need anyone
She said
As she left for solitude
And desolation

How could anyone
Be so independent
That they do not even
Need themselves?

interesting. suppose these days many people do things which are actually destorying themselves, yet pretend that everything is alrite.

nice sub, all too often I see people just turning away from friendship handed to them on a golden platter with no string attached and then walk away expecting to soar through life without help and without difficulty.

I like how you put this so simply and elegantly Tori, it sounds good.

Anyone thought that maybe 'she' (the girl the poem's about) was hurt by someone close and was just trying to cope with it by wanting to be left alone? Maybe a very close friend hurt her and it's still too raw for her to risk being hurt again.
Like the poem Tori :). It's good.

I agree with what Jay is saying, well aleast the feeling that pass my heart do, as my mind treads through your lovely poem.

It fills me with, guilt for all the times i ran, and anger for all the time i was left standing alone and confused.

But one thing is for sure, there is quite a bit of bitterness in the way in which she uses the word "need"

I like it .. tori.. wtg

I agree with many of what is said above regarding the girl's hurt. I also feel as if she is acting like a little spoilt girl. Like one who, faced with disagreement or refusal, would like to stump out and says things like 'I don't need you/anyone anyway'. Many she is not used to refusal or being treated like this.

And as for being independent enough not to need anyone... I take that as her denial to admit the fact that she actually needs others or maybe a particular someone. She cannot even be honest with herself so she is not in touch with herself either (thus independent of herself).

I've got a haiku to share.

Punishable one,
For he lost all in his life,
His soul became void.

I dont have a title for it though.

BBB, you're in a wrong thread :), for haikus you could either create your own thread or join the others here: http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1375&page=1&pp=15 (if you want to read through ALL of it ;), or just jump to the last one)

hey sub, i think thats the only way one can truly learn, yeah we do see what happens around us but we always think that this time we won't fail where as they did, but think of it this way if you had not made the mistake where would you be, better off, worse off.... I usually end up better off and therefore have no regrets, its a pain living with regrets they way you down and saying i have none is a lie, sorry theres a couple of things that Iwould really liek to say to people but given teh chance i wouldn't still.... but it keeps me up at night thinking about soemthing that happened almost six years ago

It could be that she is trying to protect herself from being hurt by being the one to leave by saying that she doesnt need anybody.

Sometimes people are so scared to admit that they need the person, and saying No is the easy way out. But this will be too much future thinking, even before something has happened. It seems that people run away / seek solitude / independence / become cold / unfeeling because they are afraid to face the consequences. Quite like what Scher said.

It hit really close to home for me. Yes, she probably is trying to protect herself from pain, the problem is after shutting everyone out for so long you not only shut out your own life but it's really difficult to open back up.

Sometimes, it's best to be missunderstood
