The Language, Writing, & Rhetoric concentration is principally aimed toward teaching freshman composition after one receives a PhD. In the US and the UK, it has been extremely political in nature with graduate students being strongly pushed toward pseudo-Marxism. By chance, a guy I knew well as an undergraduate was one of the leading lights of the new Rhetoric movement. If he hadn't died in an accident, i would curse him until he undid the evil that he did.
Unless you are a Marxist, violent feminist, or otherwise challenged in sanity, you should go with the general English major, even though it isn't nearly as bad at the undergratuate level.
