This thread would probably be closed later, but thats fine.

I just want to say congratulations to Mr. J.W. Bush.

I'm not a US citizen, but we all know USA's role and position in international affairs. And personally I dont really like US foreign policy regarding terrorism and the countries which is (unfairly) stated as the so called evil-axis nations :( :(

anyway..hope the first man will do well in his next four years in office..particullary for the sake of the world

Amuse..what do i have in me ?

The ability to extend courtesy to a man who is destroying freedoms, poisoning the environment, lying to the American public, further enriching the wealthy at the cost of the poor, and indirectly taking part in the deaths of tens of thousands through his failed policies and unjust war.

That'll do for starters.

I don't think I can bring myself to congratulate him -he didnt with an overwhelming majority anyway- but I will wish him well and hope that he will mark his second term in the office with more contsructive policies... For the sake of world population and peace.

he didnt with an overwhelming majority anyway

Bush received roughly 3.5 million more votes than Kerry did

I know :) but percentage-wise it is 51% to 49% so the country seems pretty much equally divided.

This prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson seems fitting even to an atheist like me :
"Give us grace and strength to preserve. Give us courage and gaiety and the quiet mind. Spare to us our friends and soften to us our enemies. Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temperate in wrath and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of hell, loyal and loving to one another."

And what else there is to say I guess itīs better to say in pm.

Just my opinion: does it really matter? I mean:

imho, anyone elected the president of the US does that (not only the US mind you... just the States happen to be a bit... more important than, let's say, any other smaller country with the same kind of people running them)
*shrugs*

I am in Canada, and many of my friends were really concerned with the election and tried to get me to be concerned, but... I can't affect the outcome and politicians do what they want to when they come to power...so, democracy is not really real, it is just a facade for big buisness totalitarianism.

No, that's too easy. There are criminals and then there are criminals. For all their wickedness, Ted Bundy does not equal Pol Pot. One might just as easily reverse your stance and argue that because they all are religious, they all help the poor in some way, and they all believe in national identity, every US President is a Gandhi.

I think that is going a little too far, every prez is a ghandi?

I am not sure I am following your arguement. Care to explain a bit?

I concur with trismegistus on this one. No congratulation should be issued. Bad things will come.

I think that what he means is that even in the face of gross similarities (like Jay pointed out, they aren't that much different in the big stuff i.e. Kerry voted in favour of the war), but there are differences, mostly of method and conduct.

i wish more people identified with that sort of "us." that's beautiful.

mayhap you're already a teensy bit inebriated with virtue? ;)

Agreed. That was my point. Saying that all presidents are the same because they share common traits to a lesser or greater degree, is a gross oversimplification.
