I was reading a book written by a survivor from one of the many political prisons from one of the former communism regimes.
He states that there are three ways in which humans could evade a totalitarian regime.
The first solution is to "die". If you are dead you have no belongings, no relationships, no family...there is nothing they can use against you, there is nothing they can use to scare you...
The second solution is to become an wonderer, a rolling stone. If you have no place, no passions, no friends or family, no job, no career...again, there is anything that they can use against you.
The third solution is to thrive on the opportunity to be hit and hit back. Like Churchill...The more Germany hit England, the more determined he became...
I just finished reading Orwell's 1984 and I am wondering if any of these solutions would work for Oceania. Would they?
