So I'm new here, though I've been participating in the March Book Club thread on James Joyce's Dubliners.

I am a 24-year-old Jew currently living in Rhode Island to finish up two masters degrees, but I originally hail from Long Island, NY (and still have family there, not to mention I secretly long to return there when I'm done). I will be finished with my English Masters degree this semester assuming all goes well with my final two courses, specializing in 19th and 20th Century American Lit. Given the state of American Literature Studies these days that really means that I studied a lot of Postmodern philosophy (aka Theory), and actually don't know very much about American Literature (since they don't always read a lot of literature these days in English classes). ;)

I had thought about continuing on for a Ph. D. then I returned to my senses. I can't wait until I can go back to reading what I want when I want without worrying about writing a paper or finding something original to say about a work.

The second Masters degree that I am working on is in Library Science. I originally wanted to be an academic librarian, but have lately thought about going into school librarianship.

For my BA I majored in English and minored in history, graduating from my school's Honors program after writing a fifty page Honors Thesis on Science Fiction about Mars in which I argued that the Utopian possibilities of the Martian landscape proved a fertile ground for authors to explore a second chance for humanity and political alternatives to our current systems.

Other than that I like to write fiction (usually genre work), watch cartoons (especially anime and South Park), work out, martial arts, hang with friends, eat good food, cook, listen to classical music, J-POP, Punk, Heavy Metal, Classic Rock, spend time with my family and friends when I get back down on Long Island, play/watch sports (especially basketball).

I run a literature/philsophical/Writing blog called Beyond Assumptions. (http://beyondassumptions.blogspot.com/) I often write summary/glosses/reviews/thoughts/commentary on the books I am reading. It is geared in such a way to help me remember what I read and what the main points of a book, so expect spoilers (but it might be of interest to some people here as it includes reads that I may or may not discuss here, and books you might want to consider reading).

That pretty much covers a great deal of my interests, if it doesn't quite capture my personality in the slightest. :D
