How did they react? I don't know, I am only 22.
But, he was quite right. Stupid show Big Brother, cameras on streets, stealing cellphone signals and listening others conversations in search of terrorists, usage of mass media, etc. Also, situation in Cuba, North Korea, China, Iran etc considering human rights and political freedoms etc. This forum forbids political conversations so I'll stop, but I think you get what I mean.

Actually, I watched it yesterday and I find it almost exact as 1984! V is like what Winston wanted to become.

That is one of my favorite movies! As I write this research paper the more I relate Winston to V and the Chancellor to BB, they share so many similarities!
lol I was so glad I thought of V for Vendetta because I used it in my paper......that was nice. :)
V is like what Winston wanted to become.
Well said!! that is exactly my thoughts!!

Only in V for Vendetta human feelings aren't excluded; just remember inspector Finch.
They did see the Chancellor on squares, how could else Creedy give him to V? He was real, and BB wasn't.

coincidentally, im doing a paper right now on exactly the same thing. One of Orwells purposes is a warning of the future. But he also tries to show how our individuality is the only thing that can prevent a government power from controling us. True power lies in loyalty to fellow man and human nature in general. Orwell had a great respect for the working class of people because in his experiances, the lower class expressed this loyalty and selfless-ness. This is why he puts so much emphasis on human nature in the "proles," which is the lower class in 1984. "we are not human beings... only the proles are still human." (winston says this)
