Welcome to the forum, Mike_Brainy. I agree without hesitation that To Kill A Mockingbird proves a remarkable novel; I doubt, however, if I may term any one book the best piece of literary art. Harper Lee's work would certainly find itself on my list of favorites, which even that itself seems difficult to define, but that specific novel, along with a few others like The Catcher in the Rye and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, placed my mindset as a true fan of literature.

Hi Mike...Welcome to the forum :)

I have lots of fav novels, like Catch 22, Jude the Obscure, Animal Farm, and 1984. And I agree with you there Mono One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is indeed also one of the finest.

Waiting for your future abundance posts Mike :)

I want to read "I am the cheese", I heard it's also about social corruptions and has a very interesting plot and theme, anybody read it before?

Hey Mike

I highly (pun intended) recommend The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. It is about Ken Kesey and how he formed (in a sense) a 'gang' (that became the hippy movement) called 'The Merry Pranksters' using the money he made from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

It will be interesting to see if it is termed a classic (not just because of its counter-culture, cult status) in years to come.

Was Kesey the guy with the van?

Mr Simon

Yeah kesey was the guy with the van.

The route destination sign on the front of the van was 'Furthur'

First of all they had a commune at a house Kesey bought - where they did crazy stuff such as; running lots of microphones out to the woods etc. and they had all the noises from outside amplified inside the house as 'background music'. They drove around in the van with a view to making a film but when they got the film processed they had been too stoned to to focus or expose properly.

It is very entertaining but has an undercurrent of tragedy

How are you finding Rites of Passage, sir? - I read that a few months ago and found it very evocative and Zenobia/her dad v.funny. It is the first of The Sea Trilogy - think you might read on? I'd be very interested to hear your views.

I own several copies of _To Kill a Mocking Bird_, and I still haven't made time to read it. I heard it is an excellent novel, and the people who I know who have read it enjoy it, and it is one of their favorites novels to read in Literature. So, I believe I am going to try to make time for it. What was your favorite part of the novel?
