I was looking to acquire a general census for anyone who's read some of Michael Chabon's novels. I've heard his writings are nothign but sheer brilliance from many sources, but have unfortunately not been able to begin any of his stuff. I've noted that he has won the Pulitzer for "...Kavalier and Clay" and has, on a personal note, an interesting personality with dually intriguing works (again, from what I've heard).
Anyone have a verdict? Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'm currently in the middle of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. It is very good as a whole although there are some parts that I've found to be rather slack. The humor is excellent and the sad parts are really sad.

How far along are you? I have a profound weakness for darker-themed literature, so your final few words on the book seem attractive, at least on a personal level.
Thanks for the reply.

Wonder Boys is a great novel, but I was disappointed with everything else I read by him sense. Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Kavalier and Clay - boring stuff. Don't care for genre fiction.

I have just finished reading it. I was especially moved by that part of the story that dealt with the family that Joe lost. I did find some of the sentences too long and the phrasing too arduous and complicated. I did not regret reading the book, I enjoyed most parts but I would not say that I would go out of my way to eagerly recommend it to others. The part about the comic book is very clever and unique, maybe that's what made it win the Pulitzer.
