I love Clinton. He looked wonderful today in town. I was good (stayed with my good friend's Yorkie (she was in Minnesota and the baby was needy)) but cried when he finished speaking. He looks fantastic: skinnier but not frail. I felt like General Lee's followers must have 100 years ago - overcome - like I would do anything for this man.

Just Had to say that!!!! :)

Okay, okay, now that someone has started, I have to continue. Both John Kerry and Dubya came to my city (Portland, Oregon) on the same day a few weeks ago. Bush carried his own private dinner, costing roughly $10,000 to attend, while Kerry threw his own rally for free, and I spotted him wandering the downtown streets, shaking citizens' hands (with the secret service nearby, of course). While attempting to sound the least biased, I must ask what this shouts about character?
Sorry, amuse, we will be banned soon, no doubt.

we could continue perhaps with sighs of gratefulness regarding Clinton's successful quadruple bypass? ;) medical stuff and love from the hearth. i mean heart. same difference. i feel warm and fuzzy regarding the man. like living bedrock.

papaya to the rescue, I can relate this topic to literature.....

Last night I was reading War and Peace and one of the characters (Petrya, I think) was describing the sheer joy and dare I say rapture at having seen the Tsar. The passage went on to decribe the crowds waiting to see the Tsar, grown men in tears.

As I was reading I was wondering if that really happened, do people feel such strong emotions about leaders? and if it did happen does it happen in this day and age?

many fell that way about clinton, he is/was loved. Like the late trudeu.
I think the person has to feel a connection with the leader, and completely love/envy them.

I would preffer Ralph Nader or Green Party if I were citizen of U.S., Howard Dean is also a good choice, he is a real democrat of the Democrat.

w.s., let's not get this thread locked please due to political discussion. good question, ajoe, lol. i think great leaders can inspire bipartisan, apolitcal admiration, after all. though yes i'm a democrat. :p

i was just surprised to find myself crying; i was so happy that he was doing so well.

papayahed, that part of w&p is exactly what i meant!
i'd love to see other literary examples...

btw, who is trudeu?

Meh. Isn't it a historical thread? I mean, Clinton's been gone for 4 years now. What's the statute of limitations on ex-Presidents?

Anyway, Bill was a good one. Come back, Bill! All is forgiven!

oh he was a canadian primeminister who passed away, he was really charismatic, and had a few liasons with da ladies. he was either loved... or totally despised no inbetween. He invoked the war measures act when the FLQ started bombing things and kiddnaping people, (btw this was all happening in canada), he mobilized the army to protect the citizens, put everything in martial law. When a reporte asked how far he would go (in refrence to the FLQ crisis) he replied "just watch me"

He was cool.
ps. FLQ= Front de liberation du quebec, (spelled incorectly, because I can't spell in french)
