Heya,
Am doing my A2 english coursework on...
"Compare and contrast the presentation of women and their view of marriage in Jane Austen's “Pride and Prejudice” and Helen Fielding's “Bridget Jones's Diary”."
Please let me know if you have any views/opinions/ideas regarding these!
PLEASE DO NOT USE THE FILM VERSIONS - BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY FILM IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE BOOK!
Cheers!

PLEASE DO NOT USE THE FILM VERSIONS - BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY FILM IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE BOOK!
Cheers!I found this in wiki
"Many parallels can be found between this book and Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, most noticeably in the male protagonists' last names as well as character traits (compare Fitzwilliam Darcy to Mark Darcy). The relationship of Daniel Cleaver to Mark Darcy parallels the relationship of George Wickham to Fitzwilliam Darcy. Also noticeable are the similarities in personality between Bridget's and Elizabeth Bennet's mothers and fathers. The trend of modeling the life of Bridget Jones after Jane Austen's books is carried through in The Edge of Reason, which is loosely based on Persuasion."
"Helen Fielding has stated in many interviews that her novel was based upon both Jane Austen's work Pride and Prejudice and the popular 1995 BBC adaptation, Pride and Prejudice. This was also reflected in the decision to cast Colin Firth as Darcy, since he played the 'real' Mr Darcy in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. This is not the film's only connection to that serial – the screenplay was co-written by Andrew Davies, who had written the adaptation of Austen's novel for the BBC.[1][2]"
"Fielding unabashedly retells and remolds Austin's Pride and Prejudice, which provides a very effective model for a Singleton in modern London. (The love interest is even a Mr. Darcy, and Bridget scoffs at him in the first few pages for being named so and yet still looking aloof and uninterested at a party.) The main crux of the novel involves Bridget's quest for self-improvement, including drinking less, quitting smoking, starting a savings plan, eating more fiber, putting photos in their albums, forming a functional relationship with a responsible adult, and learning to program the VCR...
In looking for love, Bridget's faced with the choice between staid, posh and boring Mark Darcy, and her boss, the sexy, exciting, roguish Daniel Cleaver. Guess who she picks? Guess who turns out to be not-so-stellar, and guess who saves the day and wins her heart? It's not difficult to predict, particularly for anyone who's read Pride and Prejudice, but the humor with which Fielding handles the ins-and-outs of relationships makes the romance interesting."
