It’s a Wonderful World

The world is filled with things that make me feel so very insignificant—
to stand beneath the whisper of spray at the base of Angel Falls
is to become one with something more than one’s self, something magnificent…

It is hard to feel top of the line of evolution when these things are so abundant—
when you actually come to see that a Sequoia is really that tall!
The world is filled with things that make me feel so very insignificant—

Watching a giant Rafflesia arnoldii unfold over time and fill the air with pungency —
and wondering why such a flower should have such a horrible smell after all?
is to become one with something more than one’s self, something magnificent…

Stand atop the world high on Mount Everest’s snowy peak nonchalant?
Nay, the sheer wonder of it all might be enough to cause one to sway and fall!
The world is filled with things that make me feel so very insignificant—

Dive deep into the Ocean into The Marinas Trench, Marine Biology Savant—
discover things that that no one ever dreamed could be, and find it makes you feel small,
to become one with something more than one’s self, something magnificent…

And yet all you have to do is watch a simple spider weave a silk and shining net—
to recognize how much of this world is beyond our beckon and call—
The world is filled with things that make me feel so very insignificant—
to become one with something more than one’s self, something magnificent…

Your poem captures how I feel when I venture out of my cocoon called a life. There is so much to be in awe of, from the greats to the little-greats. You have said it beautifully, thank you, Pen. :)

I agree - one of your best. All the big and small wonders you describe - I could really see them. You're truly good at this form. And I like the positive outlook on life and nature.

Wonderful Pen. Right now I am watching the total eclipse of the moon...well, at least I'll be back to watching it after I type this. :D
Really, really nice, Pen.

Ah! what a wonderful world you've described Pen! I'm sure everyone who read this poem should have imagined how beautiful this world is and how every small things of the nature makes us wonder just like you have described in the last stanza. Such a marvelous and spontaneous poem of yours Pen and I agree with many others here that this is one of your best :thumbs_up. The repetition worked brilliantly. I really loved this poem a lot!

The last verse paragraph is the best part of this piece.
