One day in an old people home near me the residents were reciting poetry and one octogenarian stood and recited word for word a three page poem, but she could not remember the proper title or author.
The first lines are:-
One night when the moon was shining
I awoke from my sleep
When I saw a form reclining
'gainst the window wide and deep
I sat up in sheer amazement
And rubbed my eyes for a while.
When he turned his face toward me
With a tender pitying smile....
Then he spoke, and his voice was like music,
"Arise child and come with me,
For I havbe a lesson to teach you tonight,
I have something for you to see."
A suggested title is:-
A Midnight Lesson ...... or Judge Not
Can anyone help me identify this poem, it's title and it's author both for my curiostiy and the lady who remembered it from her youth. I think many of her fellow residents would be more than interested.
thank you in advance for your help.
