start a section where people can share their 'expert' knowledge about non-lit subjects with others? as in, whoever feels like it could post some material about their area of knowledge (e.g. engineering, business studies, photography, gardening, their mother tongue, you name it) and whoever's interested in it can read about it? they'd have to state their sources, though (except when giving a very general overview, e.g. "gardening is about growing veg, trees and flowers in your garden)
but the idea is to structure the information in a userfriendly way and phrase it so that lay people can understand it and want to learn more about it.
I thought that would be a great opportunity for students and others to revise subjects and share their interests with others??? of course, other members could ask questions or seek help there.

OK. Well, non-literature-related. Hmmm..... Here is a list of subjects that I am fairly confident in my knowledge of:
US Civil War (all topics in the subject - although any US history up until the turn-of-the-century are questions I would welcome)
Movies (I am talking about modern films all the way back to the silent era, all genres, actors/actresses, directors, producers, studios, et.c.)
Television (I know a ridiculous amount of stuff about all types of television programs and television history)
Geography
Musical Theater (all decades, all types, all composers, all actors/actresses - actually, I am fairly knowledgable on all theater)
Milwaukee Brewers (my favorite baseball team :) )
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (lovely city by the lake :D )
The Paranormal
The Beatles
Dance (especially the styles of ballet and tap)
Victorian Era (topics vary from architecture to manners to clothing, et.c.)
Beauty and the Beast (yes, the Disney film :D )
Little House on the Prairie (I am talking about the TV program - not the Laura Ingalls Wilder books - I am trying to keep it non-literature! :p )
Now, I know this seems like a lot, but I really do have interests in many things. This is just the stuff I know a heck of a lot about! :D

Actually, since you mentioned the fact that the city was so clean, I might as well mention that it is always one of the top cleanest cities in the country. That is something to be proud of! :)
What I really like about the Safe House is the location! Being the age I was at the time that I first went there I thought that was so neat! I especially liked the "secret" door! :p The first time that I went there was when there was this thing going on to honor the 100th anniversary of the Pabst Theater (which is across from there). I loved all the stuff that they had inside of it. So, did you go there during the evening? Did they make you tell them the password? :D
When was the last time that you were in Milwaukee?
As a little message here, I want to let everyone know that we are getting a statue of Arthur Fonzarelli! Following other cities that have TV icon statues "from" their towns (i.e. NYC has Ralph Cramden, Minneapolis has Mary Tyler Moore, Chicago has Bob Newhart, et.c.), Milwaukee will be getting Fonzie! So, thanks to TVLAND, by the fall of this year, the Fonz should be standing proudly downtown. :D

Mythology as well. Does knowledge of Anime count?
yep of course! anime experts are extremely useful.
e.g. I found an avatar of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy ages ago. I didn't know who he was but I thought he looks cool. I only found out that he's from Final Fantasy last week and that was more or less by accident.
so, is he a good or a bad guy or both?
is Advent Children worth watching?
also, I forgot the name of the cute pointy eared Robot who used to be a man from Appleseed. Do you remember it?
(of course I could look it up in wiki, but we don't want any unemployed anime advisors in here, do we?)
my areas are
English Linguistics and Grammar
I could teach anyone who's crazy enough to learn t German, or help them with their German if they're taking it already
Geography, not the "this country has a river and a town and a mountain" variety, though. I'll be studying Developing Areas, Urban Studies/ City Geography, , Germany and Tourism over the next couple of months. if there's anything interesting, I'll post it

queen anne style was one of the reasons timberframing disappeared as a trade and a housing style in the early 1900s... it only began to reappear in the 1970s as people started to look back to their roots you could say.. alot of gothic and medieval cathedrals in northern europe, england, etc... and then barns and the like in north america...
but victorian style, in appearance somewhat... more or less though the cathedral style with big timber trusses, etc...
inkwells can create quite the feeling of loss and desolation when they invariably break... i have several now for that very reason.. i also find I seem to find ink stains on alot of different clothing now, but oh well... it is all worth the creativity it seems to inspire, and the beautiful feeling... *smile*

Let's see, I probably know enough about:
Fluid Mechanics (definitely enough to size a pump or tell you what pressure you will get at the end of a system) - which is really the only practical use of fluid mechanics
Electrical load assessments - not actual wiring but I can determine how much more power can be got from the panel box.
OHSA/MoL regs
Provincial (Ontario) & Federal Environmental Legislation in Canada
Reading of MSDS
Piping schematics
Boardwalk & Deck building
Water or Wastewater treatment processes

Really?! Why? I had no idea.
1) It is generally not tested to the same stingent levels as municipal/town water
2) Often if you look at the source it is the same basic watershed system that your tap water comes from - the difference is you pay a lot more for having the privilege of drinking less tested water, but you do get a funky bottle.....
3) If it is from outside your local watershed, the watershed is not being replenshed and this leads to the water levels reducing - which has impacts on numerous parts of life.

Yes, see, that is why I asked you. I have seen new homes built in a Victorian style, but I never see new homes done in a "fancy" way. I have to admit that I love the Queen Anne. The more extravagant and crazier the better. :)
I have this obsession with eventually obtaining a Victorian home. I have come to the conclusion that, if I could ever afford it, the house would have to be built. After all, it seems like the original Victorian houses are no longer being bought for homes. They are always turned into a Bed and Breakfast. I am pretty tired of that. It almost seems a little unfair to the people out there that actually want to LIVE in one of those. I am not the only one out there that wants it to be a home and not a business. So, if this keeps up, I would almost have to have one built. :(
inkwells can create quite the feeling of loss and desolation when they invariably break... i have several now for that very reason.. i also find I seem to find ink stains on alot of different clothing now, but oh well... it is all worth the creativity it seems to inspire, and the beautiful feeling... *smile*
Yes, I do feel like I am writing in a "prettier" way when I use a quill. :p I really don't care to spend so much on a new inkwell. I received a catalog not that long ago that is selling one a little cheaper. So, I might give in and get that.

Timberframe is a pretty rare style as well.. especially handcrafted timberframe... most people build traditional stick frame houses now for they are the least inexpensive... all the suburbia housing, etc... victorian houses are quite magnificent though... especially the wild and extravagant ones, they would be nice to live in, not just stay in at a b&b...
I love the artwork involved in what I do... especially the more challenging and interesting frames... usually though we only do the timberwork though, a general contractor does all the finishing... sometimes we do some quite interesting, elegant frames...
I've used powder ink, ink tablets, ready made... but usually it is the ready made stuff now, it is just so easy... ink wells can be expensive, I just picked up calligraphy sets in the past that came with decent ones...

Let's see.... besides books.... I ride horses (hunters) and have been for about 9 years. To say "I love horses" would be a drastic understatement - they are my passion. I love dogs too, and I am involved in rescue efforts for both of these species.
I know how to speak Spanish and I love Spain or anything about Spain. I also speak Mandarin chinese (my mom is chinese) and so obviously know a lot about the chinese culture as well.
I also work at Chick-fil-A and love it (believe me, there's more to it than just "fast food") - it has taught me so much about how to treat others, etc. The food is really tasty too.
I could probably answer any questions on these topics. :)
Oh, I just remembered; I am working on becoming an expert on the Scopes "Monkey" Trial (1925). I have to write a 8-12 page paper on it, so I suppose that will require enough information to call me an expert on the subject (once I'm finished, that is). ;)

I usually go there during the day, but the first time that I went there at night, I didn't expect that. Those things you mention are somewhat useful. Especially if you get your water from a well system instead of municipal water lines. They will also remove any sediment or anything which may be in your pipes and prevent you from drinking that. They are also good for some peoples peace of mind. Also, if you are travelling to a foreign country where you are unsure about drinking the water they become useful for that too.
Fancy elaborating on that one?
