It’s my life
And may I have to do things my way—
If you don’t understand you can just hit the highway—
I ain’t gonna be here forever—
So don’t expect me to ever keep a promise till the fifth of never—
Cause it’s my life…

I got my share of mistakes to make—
Any number of tasks for me to try and undertake—
I try to be a good man but in the end I’m still not sure—
Cause there’s a whole lot of devil that still endures—
But it’s my life

You ain’t gonna change this old boy that much—
Got a fine education but here in mountains I ain’t lost my native touch—
It’s as important to my way of thinking to know a tree by its bark or herb by its smell—
As anything I ever learned in a classroom where the professor droned on until the bell—
And it’s my life…

One day my lungs will draw their last fill of the stuff we call “air”—
My legs will fail to hold me upright and my body will crash down somewhere—
Do not try to revive me, dear friends, when it is over for me then the weary body lets go—
And somewhere out there, is a place where the remnant will still grow:
It’s still my life…
And against all odds I will find it and enjoy the rest of the story…
Life beyond what we mortals consider the final moments of existence will but be
The continuation of my life…
My life…

Very powerful poem Pen. Last line is really moving one and I loved that stanza the most.

yes, the rhymes are the same of the song. (way/highway, never/forever, ...)
and the beginning and the ending also (it's my life/'couse it's my life)
