View Full Version : Write a memoir in six words or fewer

Legend says that once somebody challenged Ernest Hemingway to write a novel in only 6 words. The result was:
"For sale: baby shoes, never worn."

Apparently, that anecdote inspired an online magazine:

http://www.smithmag.net/

to ask readers to come up with their own six word memoirs.

Some of the results were quite clever, such as this one from a chef:
"Brought to a boil, often."

and this one from a woman named Cynthia Kaplan:
"Became my mother. Please shoot me."

Since the Litnetters seem to be a particularly creative and witty bunch, how about sharing your own 6-word memoirs? I'm "counting" on it!

Always regreted not taking art...

Misunderstood by most; ignored by rest...

Acknowledge no superiors; work with equals...

(This goes on my gravestone)
He never once gave up trying...

Never played well with others.

I'm the one playing head games.

'I wish I could read this.'

Heh, now on a more serious tone:

'Grieve not, I go happy.'

We're dead when the memoir comes out, we are erased from earthly existence, so we should shift priorities for once and make our best to leave all the other people well.
