I was reading posts in this thread 'Patriotism' and I came across the mention of pride. There Witch had mentioned something which seemed to mean that what's use of being proud of something which you have got by just mere luck. Now I feel like relating to it, and also get this feeling that I am probably proud of nothing too most of the times. At least I believe I should not be. I mean, let's see, what's here to be proud of?

Intelligence or ability to make the decision which proves to be good - God-gifted (those who don't believe in Him can take it to be nature-gifted) Now many might disagree with me here as the choices are ultimately human but by extreme logic (or probably obviously for some too), I think even intelligence is not in everybody's hands. The ability to make the right choice.

Looks - Again God-gifted

Parents/sibling - God-gifted once again

Or one can be proud of the fact that God (or nature) has considered a person worthy enough to be gifted by all this. But then again, it all can be taken anytime. So I feel as if pride is something which a person should not necessarily have though I think many people might oppose to it. Now, what do you guys think about pride? Is it necessary to have pride in yourself? Is it totally wrong to be proud of something? Are you proud of something, if then what is it? Do you think you should be proud of it or is it that you can't just help it? Or is it okay to be proud of certain things while not the others? (please tell us about those too, in such a case)

Personally, I think pride is not too good, especially when it crosses a certain limit but sometimes (just sometimes) I can't help being proud of certain things though I think even then I don't cross the limits....I just am too good to be proud, hey and I am proud of being good. Now that's ironic. Are you proud in the similar way too? :p

I hope I am making sense.

When I say I'm proud to have the good hearted, intelligent children and grandkids that I have, maybe I really mean that I'm thankful. I say I'm proud of a lot of things, including my kids, the way I was raised, my family, the fact that my brothers have made decisions that have not caused them to be out of jail their whole lives. But maybe I'm really thankful.

Pride is a very diffeicult issue to deal with, because it can be mistaken as self confidence, or visa versa. I think at the end of the day we, as humans, can't do anything that isn't God-gifted, and seeings as it's a gift, it's hardly our place to brag about it. I think true self esteem comes from knowing your proper and unwarped worth in the scheme of all things; your true worth in God's eyes, and in his plan. When we find our worth in Him, we'll also see how bad our pride was, as our pride is all self centered. I'm not sure if all this makes sense, but that;s more or less the idea!

I guess I can say I am both thankful and proud. I am thankful that I can live the comfortable life that I am living, have a caring husband, a great support system and people who care abt me.
I am proud of myself when I attain a certain goal that I have set for my self. Does that make me conceited ? I don't think so.
Is it necessary to be proud of oneself ? No, but it helps your self esteem I would think.
I don't think its wrong to be proud of something either.

I'm proud of the human race and all our achievements but also disappointed.

for myself, I cannot say, it's only luck.

I don't think I have much pride then. :(

Luck only get's you so far, most of it is probably your own doing.
