The book 1984 confuses the hell out of me. I am reading it for World lit. i can't imagine a world like the one that Orwell describes to us in his book. he is very descriptive but still how can you picture a telescreen that can see your every move just about. that is freaking crazy. i can read college level stuff but this book is so confusing. I can't really comprend it.:flare: :bawling:  :( :flare: :bawling: :(

You think you have problems?
How do you think it was for readers shortly after the book was written?
You have a PC, to which cookies get added. Those cookies will tell companies all over the world where you're surfing and when. It's really a short step from a webcam to a telescreen. If you have a mobile phone with GPS switched on, you can be tracked by people with access to the provider's network.
When I read 1984, TV was black and white, videos, computers and mobile phones were unknown.
You need to abandon your worries about the technology and accept that in that society, they are a part of everyday life.

I read this book a long time ago and this is really exhilarating. I find it really moving, as a matter of fact.

Big brother may not have TV's watching your every move at the moment but they do know most things that you do. Own a credit card they know what you purchase. Own a phone they know who you call. Use the library they know what you read. It is a great book it may not have everything exactly right but it is not far off.

We are well beyond the world described in that book. Orwell was describing the world at that time!
