What is it?

Alone in a room.
Darkness.
I feel it.
I know it’s there,
It’s presence is heavy.
Hiding behind me.
Creeping.

It takes a turn,
The agonizingly painful,
I must not move.
I will not be moved.
It’s dripping.
Dripping.

It thrashes and swirls around me,
It envelopes and holds me,
Softly,
Warmly,
I know, it’s waiting to kill.

I hear it whisper,
Words of ice.
It burns.
Holds me tighter.

So foreign but I know it.
So close.
Broken glass falls.

It shatters,
I turn.

And I see: me.

Break!

“Give Sorrow words”
But how?
You cannot be told,
Of this dark thing,
The cruel secret,
That mutes.

So lush,
And un-naturally heavy,
It cracks and splinters,
Like glass,
It shatters.

You cannot know,
And I cannot tell you,
‘Tis Best kept in solitude,
Hidden behind a smile.

The blood I shed,
And the tears I drop,
Are unimportant.

Meaningless laughter covers
What you will never know.

“Give sorrow words.
The grief that does not speak
Whispers the o’er fraught heart
And bids it break.”

So then, let it break.
