I'm not entirely sure which parts of the world have this...
However, I have heard it is a tradition in the U.K, Ireland, Australia and Canada.
How do you have your pancakes? :D

T'is indeed pancake day here! Sadly, we're all so busy in this flat that nobody will willingly take the task of making a batch for the 4 of us.

We're just postponing it for a week instead!

Well...my favourite combination would be nutella, crumbled biscuit or coconut shreds and Grand Marnier....yum!

Pancakes over here(Canada) are weird. They are over thick & almost doughy.

The only things that should go on a pancake are sugar, lemon juice & maple syrup.

I had no idea today was a pancake day, but I had an urge for pancakes anyway, and obviously so did my maid, because when I returned from doctor, I saw a little pile of them on the kitchen plate... and sighed something of the, Mon Dieu, je l'adore kind (my maid is French). :D What a coincidence. Lovely.

I love them the best with chocolate and a few drops of rum or wine.
The best pancakes I ever ate, though, were in Athens, I stumbled upon a place where they had so many different tastes, and they were so unique, and I loved them!

Oh, no...pancakes should be very, very thin! Lemon&sugar is a good combination...but I'm not very keen on the maple syrup

I love the those places...There is one I remember in Athens which is tiny but has managed to squeeze in so many different&delicious tastes, it's unbelievable!
I want to go there now...

I like and make pancakes thin, almost like tortillas.
The only things that should go on a pancake are sugar, lemon juice & maple syrup.I understand sugar and syrup but lemon?

Oh, yeah. the lemon is where its at. However if you put on lemon it is just a few drops and only with sugar (anything along with lemon other than sugar makes it not as nice.

You should try with Chocolate spread and honey. and thinly slice a banana. Yum!

The Sugar an Lemon seems to be the tradional way of eating pancakes around this neck of the woods. :nod: Its very nice. I've actually been on a pancake binge since i was able to eat again on friday after noon. :p
Today (well about 5mins ago) i had one with i nice dollop of fresh cream. :D

We will add lemon and sugar to the list too then but not sure about chocolate and honey. Might be too sweet... At least for my liking.

One time i made PB&J Pancakes.
I made pancakes with smooth peanut butter inside the batter, and covered them in blueberry jam at the end.
Those were some amazing pancakes...

No, I go for more of the classic rolled pancake, with a rounded teaspoon of sugar sprinkled over from end to end then lemon juice dribbled along the top.

I was never to fond of pancakes, but when I do make them I go the traditional way, just with syrup. I know, boring but what the hell.

Bananas!! I'd forgotten about chocolate+bananas. Used to be my favourite, till I discovered the wonders of grand marnier...but the bananas go too soggy for my liking.

Never had honey though with the choc...does it not become a bit much?

My flatmates put jam...and ice-cream :confused:

There is no Pancake day here in the sense of pancakes - no pancake tradition here - still, the day is still celebrated here, although differently.
It is called vastlad here, and there is a tradition of going sledging today and eating a certain sort of bun with whipped cream and pea soup. It was important to have long sledge rides - who rode the longest, would have the longest....linen. (what else did you think?)
Growing flax is not very important these days, however, but still, when there is snow, it is still traditional (and fun) to go sledging - unfortunately- this year there is no snow so no sledging. A pity.
Well, that's the climate warming for you.

I've never heard of "Pancake Day" (I'm American), but my Earth Science teacher has a "Flapjack Day" which is the same thing I would guess (however, it's at a different time in the year). I like mine as follows:

--> Maple Syrup
--> Butter
--> Butter and Maple Syrup
--> Some sort of Fruit topping with Whipped cream (blueberry is preferred, although apple and strawberry are good as well)

Personally, I'm much more of a waffle-person. :banana:

Pancake day (pancake tuesday) is celebrated on Shrove tuesday every year. Its like a day of indulgence before lent begins(tomorrow).

Trust me its not that sinful. I've been to pancake cafes in Dublin where you can get crepes with nutella and melted marshmellows. now THAT is a bit much.

Melted marshmallows in a crepe?! Oh, mon dieu!! That just sounds wrong. Marshmallows should be for hot choc or in combination with a choc fountain. Only!

But I will try the nutella+honey...the next time I'll have a pancake

Well, today is "Fat Tuesday" here. So, that is why I know of all the pancake-eating going on (I am American).

I don't mind Apple Cinnamon pancakes. Well, I really actually don't mind anything that is Apple and Cinnamon flavored! :D

If I had to have my choice, though, I would just stick to the original kind of pancake. I prefer my flapjacks nice and puffy and loaded with lots of maple syrup!!! I like them soaking in the syrup!

You have really put me in the mood for some now! :nod:

Back home it's called Paczki day (where's Stannie when I need him??). A Paczki (poonch key) is a lard laden rasberry/strawberry filled donut. Although calling it a donut is an understatement, these suckers are dense and did I mention lard laden?

Oddly enough no. I'm straight up German and Mexican, but I grew up in a predominately Polish neighborhood and I'm more accustomed to peirogi and golabki then weiner schnitzel or tacos.

Back to pancakes: In Germany there is no pancake-day, but many years ago it was a tradition to make pancakes on Easter Day with slices of sausage ("Mettwurst", the german "salami"). My grand-grandfather is said to have made this pancakes with twelve eggs and no flour, so this was rather an omelette than a pancake ... Well, maybe it's a good idea to revive this tradition ...
