just wondering. i just saw season4 premiere Storm Front Part 1 a few days ago. i thought it was an interesting way to get out of the problems of season 3. manny coto took over the show-running and added the Garfield team as part of his ensemble of writers. as you know the Garfields have written Star Trek Prime Directive, Federation and most of the "Shatnerverse" novels. i'm excited about the Garfield episodes... i think they are truly the best Star Trek novel writers of today and having them doing TV show and hopefully (one of these days) a script for a feature epic film. their works are pretty cinematic since they are writing about stories that originated in a a/v medium.

anyone else follow this show?

I just started watching this show. I was/am a huge Next Generation fan, kinda liked Deep Space Nine, and never really got into Voyager. But I've been meaning to try to catch Enterprise.

Lack of teliviosionary equipment has put a hold on all viewings of any kind, yet there is little feeling of regret as it would prove to be merely another form of procrastination.

I watched most of Enterprise and I was rather unimpressed, it went away from exploration and and turned into a vendettat to destroy an entire race, the whole outer space war thing is getting to be kind of boring, If I wanted to see war, genocide and horny vulcans, I would watch CNN. I wish star trek would go back to the good old days...

Indeed, I enjoy the original sereis, and have collected most of them, but I am mainly focusing on SG1 now.

I like Enterprise, its decent enough. I don't like the whole "temporal cold war" thing, I think its annoying. But I do like the whole "get out there and explore" type of thing. Their first season was nice in that way. The second season fixed some of the do-gooder attitudes that I didn't like about Archer. Now that the temporal cold war is over I hope it gets better. I really like Doctor Phlox's character, and Lt. Reed. I'm also excited about Brent Spiner joining the show. Sure, it could be gimmicky, but Data is probably my favorite ST character of all shows so....

JediFonger
10-21-2004, 10:40 PM
well if you saw the recent episodes "Storm Front" both parts the temp cold war should have ended. rick berman and the other guy are very poor writers. manny coto should, in theory, rescue the show. i hear they hired the garfields to write some of the episodes... i'm most excited about those episodes! they are bound to be OUT OF THIS WORLD. i mean the books they've written read like the shows... but here they are actually WRITING the star trek shows!!! wooo hooo!!! it must be a dream come true for coto and garfields.

The original series are my favorite but Deep space nine is the one I grew up with. I live in Icland so I have only seen two series of Enterprise so I don't know what is going on out there...

those ones are complicated. the best way is download azureus:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=84122
^download the setup.exe and set it up. there are mirrors, if one doesn't work try others. also this is java-based so make sure you have the latest version of java from java.com

then goto:
http://suprnova.org/ or http://btefnet.com/
to d/l the latest not just from enterprise but ANY TV show eps that you've recently missed. bte is for more recent stuff but sprnova's got everything! =)

after you setup azureus and you goto either of those bit-torrent site you have to open a .torrent file. it may take days or more to get a file but at least you can get it. that's the point of broadband and 'always on'.

Back on topic, I was the biggets TNG fan, but then it went off the air, then I went to DS9 and liked it decently. I occasionally watched Voyager but I never got into it. So, when they were all gone I was all excited for Enterprise, but I can't get to like the captain. He just doesn't work for me, so it has never been something I have ever gotten into. Actually, with the really stupid main character death in the most recent TNG, I have lost respect for that group at the moment.

I caught the episode last night, pretty good. But the green guy reminded me a little too much of Shrek.

Does this show have the best opening sequence or what?

Stanislaw
11-01-2004, 11:33 AM
I know what you mean... Star Trek has been murdered.

Star Trek was cool.
ST Cartoon. uh, not too bad
TNG was pretty sweat
DS9 was okay, but too much babylon 5
Voyager, Lost in space with a federation ship

Enterprise, a blatent disregard for the unity of the original show(s).

Kiwi Shelf
11-01-2004, 06:27 PM
I have to admit, of all the Star Treks... I like the opening to Enterprise the best. But at the same time, it is so different than the rest it is like it is doing its hardest as Stanislaw says: "a blatent disregard for the unity of the other shows" I think that is why I don't like it, to me it isn't star Trek.

Stanislaw

ah another anomily, first contact occured with picard, not archers crew, It is just another plot hole... how come if humans have encountered the borg they know absolutely nothign about them later on. Or does archer not believe in recording major events.

JediFonger

if you've been following the series i think continuity has been thrown out the window anyway.

plus it's interesting to note that the original series with kirk was not all that consistent in of itself either.

Stanislaw

actually I grew up with the reruns, and didn't watch tng untill it started to turn into reruns. I think I only ever saw the voyager premier when it actually aired, by that time I was a kirk junkie, even combed my hair like his...

Scheherazade

It took couple of days to get used to... Mind you in those days not all programs were broadcasted in colour where I lived.
I was over the moon that I could watch the world skating championship in colour

*sighs dreamily

those were the days I guess

Stanislaw
11-03-2004, 01:29 PM
indeed, it was pretty cool watching stuff in colour, It was liek scifi come to life for me. But now it seems the norm, and I wan't the new plasma wide home theatre screen with surround soubd, but like spock sais "sometimes having is not such a pleasing thing as wanting, illogical as it seems", loosley quoted from Amok Time.

I think it is because the eyes tend to adapt to the lack of colour and tricks our brain, because I still have the same occurance when watching reruns of the beverly hillbilies.

colour came into being 1926(early technicolor) with douglas fairbanks's "The Black Pirate". silent film. good one =). ah color how i luv it... but then douglas reverted back to black&white in his next major hit "Iron Mask" in 1929. i'm willing to bet that's before any of you were born. i'm not saying that i'm old... i'm saying that @any age you can enjoy different things from different times blackwhite or color.

back to enterprise, you guys watching the s00ng arcs? i find it... fascinating. also didya know that TOS is out on DVD nowdays?

JediFonger

sanislaw, what i meant was not only the individal bi episode DVDs. they're coming out 4 episodes PER physical DVD as a SEASON box set:

JediFonger
11-09-2004, 11:32 PM
actually don't spend it if you already own most of the episodes you liked. why own episodes that you don't wanna watch?

if you really wanna see the bonus features rent the bonus disc. imho you have to be a hardcore trekkie to buy any of the sets. the a/v quality is duplicate of the single DVD version. people say they can see a diff. i can't see it. don't waste money when you don't have to.

when i buy any DVDs i always ask myself, am i going to watch this relentlessly? i said yesh to citizen kane, star wars, which i watch at least once a month or a few times a year. that's why i only own a few DVDs compared to many other people. i rent (netflix) most of the all other movies cause i only watch it once.

Stanislaw
11-10-2004, 11:46 AM
indded that is a good idea, I didn't know you could rent the bonus disks.

JediFonger
11-10-2004, 02:05 PM
i know with netflix you usually can but i dunno about blockbuster or other rental services. shop around. if not now then next year. it's a waste of $ if you don't watch it almost everyday obsessively =).

Kiwi Shelf

Yeah, the prices of Star Trek dvds is nuts... I look at them and think it would be nice to have, but I would have to watch everyday to make me feel like I am getting my moneys worth. Very annoying. I await the day when stuff gets cheap, in other words I will never have them...

Stanislaw
11-11-2004, 01:13 AM
You could always pirate them?

and then there is also christmass.

Kiwi Shelf
11-11-2004, 11:02 AM
haha, my family would look at me like I had three heads if I asked for DVD's that cost over a hundred bucks. Star Trek or not, that is out of my Christmas asking range

JediFonger
11-11-2004, 04:20 PM
we all know pirating is illega right =^). but you are correct, the trek DVDs are outrageously priced... but they have done so with the full knowledge that hardcore trekkies will buy them without fail. if you only get 10,000 people (that's very few in the grand scheme of peoples) to buy 1 set that's $100x10,000=1million dollars!!! that's pretty amazing. plus for the most part trekkies will buy all 3 seasons or 7 for the later series. they are saving up for all of them to watch it ad nauseum.

Speaking of Star Wars, have you guys seen the trailer for the third movie(something of the Sith)? It looks promising.

JediFonger
11-12-2004, 11:57 AM
yesh... but you have to remember how the teaser trailers for phantom menace and attack of the clones looked awesome as well... and look what happened...

papayahed

I don't really remember the trailers for the first two. Man way to burst my bubble, jedi :goof:

JediFonger
11-14-2004, 08:13 PM
well the teaser for phantom menace is the one that starts with the gugans coming out of the mist and the words, "every generation has a legend...", "every journey has a first step" and finally "every saga has a beginning..." then it launches into ep1 footages. here's the teaser for ep1:
http://www.starwars.com/episode-i/release/trailer/teaser.html

ep2 had 3 teasers then the final trailer. i think the very first one was called "Breathing" where it was Vader breathing then clips from ep2 synchronized to his breathing. teaser for ep2:
http://www.starwars.com/episode-ii/video/trailers/breathing/index.html

it's funny that they have been more creative with their trailers and teasers than the final end product.

papayahed
11-15-2004, 10:58 AM
DOH!! your right I remember seeing the second trailer at the movies and i was all geeked because it had the Darth Vadar breathing!!!!!!! :flare: :brickwall

JediFonger
11-15-2004, 11:21 AM
ya know what's funny they keep teasing people with the vader breathing in the first movie, then second and finally in the ep3 we'll only see like 2 seconds of vader onscreen. what a big tease.
