hello community !

I'm trying to find a british short story I've red in english course at university

it's a sarcastic story about a newly rich man trying to climb the social ladder
he try to get interesting people to his dinners but there's no conversation
his buttler tells him to give better wines
so he documents and buys a lot of prestigious Clarets
but as he has no taste, those wonderful bottles are drunk by the buttler himself (and the chief)

the story begins with those words : "As soon as Mr XXX had made his first million, he and his wife mooved to London..."

does-it remind you something ? (Somerset Maugham ?)

thanks

please do not hesitate to mention and correct my worst faults in writing english

I think what you are looking for is Roald Dahl's The Butler.

I have not yet read any of Roald Dahl's novels; but I know many of his short stories - and I love them!

Dahl was a great author, horrible politics though. Start with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
