Hello everyone
this is my first time here, I originally came for the sun tzu, so how did you guys find the place?
Welcome aboard, Riddick; and what a well-chosen piece of literature that aided your deciding to join the forum. I cannot even remember what first brought me to this site; I considered myself a 'usual customer' long before I began my membership with the forum. I did, however, enjoy reading much of the classical poetry and, randomly, the posted works of Virginia Woolf. Take care.
 Hello Riddick, welcome. I was originally looking for Milton info for my paper :).

But what shall happen to the poor writers? If all books are free, then they wouldn't get any money and would starve and die. And no-one would want to be a writer so no new books would be written.
Heaven on earth indeed.
lol, Taliesin, you do have a point there :). Ok, so it'll be realy nice if the books... ack, can't really say anything because I don't think you'd agreed to that anyway ;). Eemmm... so the books could cost only the writer's salary and the cost of printing the book... okok, I know, someone also has to print the book, then the someone has to have a boss... I give up. :)
'Twas just ... never mind :).

Well, libraries offers free boks, if you return them on time.... but they're so picky and none have exactly what your looking for so you end up going to several libraries in the search for a book, they you have to return them without finishing them or pay horrendous overdue fees..... ooof, i'm beginning to hate libraries and I work in one ;). But really books should be free like in libraries but places where they give away books, maybe an organization donating books to everyone who wants one, that would be the day
Glad to see another new face here Riddick!
As for `free' books ... just my thoughts ...
I agree with Taliesin, if people weren't paid for their books, there would be much less motivation for people to write. I think it's great that sometimes publishers advance fees to someone who needs to take time off from their full-time careers to get a book finished. Publishing is a huge industry and provides many employment opportunities to people.
Same can be applied to anyone else in the `arts': if there was no perceived monetary value to `art', there wouldn't be any, or not nearly as much. People `want' things, they want to read, expand their minds or be amused or entertained with various types of `art' and that intrinsic value is what drives the supply and demand of, even, the `industry' of art.
I don't mind paying for works of `art' whatever they may be, but for instance I do resent paying high prices for hardcover books when I know a tiny fraction of the price actually goes back to the author.
Tax payers' money is used to go towards public libraries, at least they pay for the books and usually library access is free.
I'm sure Admin has paid a lot of money over the development of this site, obtaining etexts from someone, and here we have to pay for internet access, have the luxury of a computer, where a lot of people don't even have this.

It would be nice if everything was like Star Trek the Next Generation, then we could have free books!
Oh, and I came here for the 1984
