I went through a phase of reading interest, where I was quite interested in books about beautiful misreable Jewish females. Of course, the only book that really fits that description is Prozac Nation, which was so gooooooood, and I can go for any book about misreable ethnic people so long as it's inner misery and not economic misery and its not Irish misery, which I've already had more than enough of my fill of.

But anyway, what I'm wondering is if you would like to see more books about the misery of screwed up ethnic people? Also, are there any good ones you can reccommend? There's something about reading stories of screwed people with ethnic elements that I think really can be so great and powerful, adding so much to statements on modern society and all that.

Maybe "Nervous Conditions" by Tsitsi Dangarembga, or "The Guide" by R.K. Narayan.

One good one, that is quite short actually, is "Innocent Erendira" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. You want to see miserable, that one kinda hits the nail on the head. Marquez is Colombian so this book takes place in South America, Tsitsi Dangarembga is African and so "Nervous Conditions" takes place in Africa and R.K. Narayan is Indian so his takes place in India! Lots of culture! AND misery! Yay!

I would suggest that you check out Ten Little Indians by Sherman Alexie.
