Spartacus' struggle, often perceived as the struggle of an oppressed people fighting for their freedom against a slave-owning aristocracy, has found new meaning for modern writers since the 19th century. The figure of Spartacus, and his rebellion, has become an inspiration to many modern literary and political writers, who have made the character of Spartacus an ancient/modern folk hero.

I am Spartacus!
Are you?
What shall we struggle against? From what Rule shall we Free ourselves from?
Tyranny of Democracy? Stranglehold of organised religion? Tyranny of domesticity...of burghers...fries...motor cars...Sunday roast? :D
Banks, taxman, credit cards, loans and mortgages? :D
Dow Jones and Nikkei and bad spellings? :D
Climate change, global warming and ben and jerries icecream? :D
If indeed you were to be Spartacus - what would you fight to free yourself and humanity from? :D

I'd like to free humanity from itself.:)

We can't return to our animal nature lassie...I would be really offended if my pals came and pooped on my carpet ;-) :D
I second that motion. People are so closed-minded. We oppress ourselves.
I would also vote to make presidential campaining a week long. I'm about tired of hearing about it, and we still have a year left.

I have not waited for your approval, I have already returned to my animal nature. Or maybe I never really left that nature behind.:)

You don't poop on your friends carpet do you? :D

You don't poop on your friends carpet do you? :D
Well, not unless the friend in question pisses me off. :p
Anyway, animal nature is not only about pooping on carpets, you know that?
And I think that in my life, I've met more humans who threw up on carpets for being drunk than animals who pooped there.:)

If you went that far, you wouldn't have a carpet in the first place. :D
Anyway, being part of humanity, I don't think I'm keeping myself prisoner. I don't want to be freed from myself. :D
I'd rather put up a fight against those people calling me on the phone to sell me a car, lottery tickets, magazines, um, carpets and so on. Sometimes it's just machines - so you can't even bother them by shouting, using filthy language etc. :flare:

But they do clean up afterwards though? :D
Depends on how drunk they are, Lote, whether they clean up or not.

My dog cleaned up, too. You don't want to know how.

That sounds a noble cause! :D
I like getting an actual telemarketer. My family irritates them.
"No we don't want sattelite TV! We're Amish! You've insulted us."
One time my mom ran a guy in circles for thirty minutes.
One time she started speaking hebrew at them.

That may certainly be fun if you have the time. But what do you do about the machines? They simply won't listen to you. :(

That reminds me of my father:
Telemarketer: 'May I talk to your wife please?'
My father: 'She's dead'
Telemarketer, embarrassed: 'Oh.'
My father: 'It's ok, she pissed me off anyway.'
Oh, as a side note, my mother is not dead.:) My father has a strange humor.:p
Sounds like something my dad would do. You should see us debate about the news at dinnertime.

Nah. For some reason I rooted against Spatacus in the movie. Something about Kirk Douglas didn't inpire me. :p
Tyranny of Democracy?
They may have been struggling to free themselves, but there is no evidence that they would have set up a democracy.
Stranglehold of organised religion? Tyranny of domesticity...of burghers...fries...motor cars...Sunday roast? :D
 You are free right now from these things. You don't have to follow any religion. And as long as you don't fall for some gal, you are free from domesticity. ;) They get you every time. :p
Banks, taxman, credit cards, loans and mortgages? :D
Other than the tax man, probably the most evil thing on the planet, you don't need to deal with banks. If we, and Spartacus, are going to rebel against the tax man, count me in. :thumbs_up
Dow Jones and Nikkei and bad spellings? :D
Sure. I can't stand spelling dictators. :D
Climate change, global warming and ben and jerries icecream? :D
I already have. I look for ways to warm the earth. I have heat in my home on right now. :D
If indeed you were to be Spartacus - what would you fight to free yourself and humanity from? :D
Tax man, tax man, tax man. I agree on that one. Yeah, let's rebel. I'll get the pitchforks. :D

I wanna fight grumpy old grannies who don't let people get off the tube first before they push their way in, but shout and holler when young people do the same.
I also don't like old grannies who sit opposite hubby and me in the tube and glare at us for reading newspapers and books :eek2: last time I checked, reading wasn't a crime, plus aren't old grannies supposed to be like "aaaaargh, today's youth are so dumb, they don't read enough"? rather than "Oh my God, they read so much, it must be black magic!"
Next time one of those half-mummified old hags glares at me for reading I'll ask her "What's up you old toad, never seen a book before? It's one of them things that's got lots of letters in 'em"

well, I do have respect for people who are both old and have worked hard in their life. but not for those who spent the last 60 years sitting on the sofa eating cakes, have never read a book in their life and glare at others for doing so

Regardless of this how could you root against him! He was fighting for his freedom and the freedom of the slaves :D
They may have been struggling to free themselves, but there is no evidence that they would have set up a democracy.
Whatever it would have been...I am sure it would not have been slavery :D
And as long as you don't fall for some gal, you are free from domesticity. ;)
Why can't we fall for a gal not domesticity? :D
Other than the tax man, probably the most evil thing on the planet, you don't need to deal with banks.
I would say banks are evil! Banks take money from people as savings and charge you 15% to borrow that money from them?!! Isn't it brilliant evil idea :D
If we, and Spartacus, are going to rebel against the tax man, count me in. :thumbs_up
Tax man takes money from the rich to help the poor ;-) Taxman is the Modern Day Robin Hood :D

Once while showing the film as a substitute, when they came to that point in the movie, one by one all the students stood up and said, "I am Spartacus."
I am Spartacus regarding double taxation, and NYC parking tickets which you can even get when the meter is broken.
