I am watching the rain from my window

it bounces on the red brick of the street

it slides down gutters, down roofs, down chimneys

it slips from streetlamps, and signs, and leaves

it ripples in puddles driven by the wind

it scatters under cars and booted feet

it swills into grids, into drains, into streams

and I watch from the stillness of my room

- unmoving.

Sounds like a quiet time. I used to have a realy good CD of rain and thunder. I could always go to sleep with that CD or relax with my Earl Grey. Nice poem, Fifth. :thumbs_up

I love all the movement in this poem and I sat as still as your room, watching. Even though I love winter, I'm ready to see something moving outside. Everything is so frozen.
So now I'm off to have a cup of Earl Grey, my favorite.

Thanks Pen, I have a CD 'Sounds of Nature' which is rain and thunderstorms and is very relaxing and settling. Watching the rain is something I have always enjoyed, fortunately round these parts there is plenty of opportunity!

I'm glad you mentioned the movement amp, it was it seemed quite marked from the quiet calm of my house today. I remember from your blog, the picture of your porch. I could imagine sitting on your porch watching the rain, I think that would be quite wonderful.

Oh yes, I do that quite often. I love to watch the rain, where it goes, what it does. The only time I don't is when there is direct lightning overhead. Then I'm scared.
As soon as the weather is nice you and Pen can stop by for some Earl Grey. ;)

My own sleepy-time tape consists of sounds of especially rowdy kids during recess time, excerpts from several Rush Limbaugh & Bill McNeil broadcasts, several commercials.

You can imagine, perhaps, what a relief it is when I turn it off.

Wonderful counterpoint between all those active verbs, and the quiet punctuation of that in the last line and a bit.

Ah, Fifth, you already know how I appreciate this poem and how I hear the sound of the rain in it.:)

Oh, and about ampoule's porch, I guess we will have to take turns to sit there because I also love this porch.:p

Fifth, there's a creative flare there and there, L6 & L7 especially. It feels more like a journal entry to me for its heavy emphasis on cataloging in real time, the result of which is muzik. Nice work, maestro.

Lovely poem Fifth!

I loved following lines the most:

it ripples in puddles driven by the wind

it bounces on the red brick of the street

I can feel the rain pouring down here; it's dance, beauty, move, etc, after reading your poem.

There's probably nothing more relaxing than watching the rain - unless it's watching the snow.

You did a great job of capturing that.
