Well if you are intresting in contempary, here are a list of Poets you may want to look into:
Syliva Plath
Elizabeth Bishop
Robert Lowell
Philip Larkin
Allen Ginsberg (though I don't like him, he is a big name in contempary poetry)
Fank O'Hara

FROM: Meditation on the A30
A man on his own in a car
Is revenging himself on his wife;
He open the throttle and bubbles with dottle
and puffs at his pitiful life
She's losing her looks very fast,
she loses her temper all day;
that lorry won't let me get past,
this Mini is blocking my way.

This is my favorite modern poem. Maybe because I use this road daily on my way to and from work.
BBC's 'Poetry Please' is a good selection of mostly modern poems, that's where I found the above poem. You can hear recent programs here:

You will like this one as well (listen to the audio reading on this site):

I am more into academic 'big' modernist poems but the BBC program mentioned above keeps me in touch with more contemporary and lesser known poetry.

Actually, Pablo Neruda (although great) is not contemporary (he died 35 years ago) but "Modernist". Maya Anjelou on the other hand... well the less said (and read) the better. If you want contemporary check into John Ashberry, Geoffrey Hill, Anne Carson, Charles Simic, W.S. Merwin, Yves Bonnefoy, Seamus Heaney, Wislawa Szymborska, Adam Zagajewski, Richard Wilbur, Anthony Hecht, Richard Howard... all among the best contemporary poets.

if you are looking to buy work, you may consider the Norton Anthology of Contemporary Poetry.
