View Full Version : I Hate Shalot
Shalot

I hate my lit net user name, handle, whatchamacallit thingie.
Shalot: it's lame. I was trying to be all literary and I really did like the Tennyson poem I was thinking of when I picked it, but I just hate that name. It's ugly. Shuh lott. Ugh! Why didn't I pick something that sounds pretty?
Anyone else hate their username?
Is this a frivilous, stupid, immature high school cafeteria topic? :D :p
Virgil

No it's not frivilous. I understand. A user name is part of one's identity. An identity is of the upmost importance to oneself. I think Logos can do switch your name while still keeping your post and post count. But it would onfuse the heck out of the rest of us. ;)

Uhhh, yeah like papayahed?

Sometimes I wish I had picked something different, the other day a really good username came to mind but I have since forgotten it. It was good too.:crash:
Would a Shalot be a Shalot if by any other name?:D
(that's how that goes right?)
BulletproofDork

Ugh, I know what you mean. I used to think BulletproofDork was a hilarious username, but now . . .
Ugh.

Yeah, I guess it would be hard to keep up with a bunch of name changes. But still....

But Shalot, you make up for it with an awesome avatar! :D

You could put "Formerly Shalot" in your signature. ;)

I love my user name (s0rry!) It's my user name in almost all my sites. And my real life nickname! (Some people are me calling me Ryu now!)

Well, at least your username looks good. I just kind of hate mine. And I guess I could create a new account as someone else, and let Shalot rest in peace, but then I would have to go to the trouble of ingratiating myself again, and establishing rapport and all that. (Not that I am all that ingratiated but you know what I mean).

That's crazy Shalot! I always think of the poem when I see you around here...Atleast you're not stuck with an incomprehensible "crazefest" with a string of numbers attached :D

Keep your username, it's memorable! every time I cook I think of you! (that may be 'cause we do cook with looks of onions but....!) :p People can remember it and it's fun.

it's OK, it reminds me of onions, too :) ...er, I like onions :)
but for some reason I kept mixing you up with grace86 (sp?) at first... I'm sure my brain's still got some of your details stored in the wrong place :(

I don't hate Shalot, I love it! Don't change, but if your heart desires a change, maybe take Virgil's brilliant suggestion -- put Formerly Shalot somewhere that would appear in every post -- maybe under the avatar choice?
And to answer your question -- indeed I love my username. I just do. Because KIZ was a name that I grew up with, and I think you can figure out where the PAWS fits into the equation, ha ha!

Shalot i love your user name. I always read it as Lady of Shalot. Do you pronounce it Shu lot? I always pronounce it Sha (real emphase on the sh) lot.

I totally agree. We love you Shalot!:D
Pensive
01-17-2008, 06:01 AM
I chose Pensive, partly as an irony but gladly I did so, and now slowly and slowly again this user-name started to influence me from the day I chose it for myself. At the moment it has me under its full control (well full might be too much exaggeration, but still quite) I would have to admit irony has decided to take revenge for being used without being asked.
BTW, there seems to be nothing wrong with Shalot to me.
Shalot used to be my nickname last year. My math teacher called me Shalot because I could recite the whole poem. Of course he had nicknames for everybody, like Snowflake, Strobadelic, and Frodo. I hated it when he would say (out of nowhere) "Is it sha-little or shalot?"
Of course we had our own nickname for the 270 pound Mr. Minns... Mr. Chins.

WOW you can recite the whole thing - that's pretty good.
Shalittle. How funny

I like Shalot... o.O
I don't hate mine... It's just my name. Original only because it's not common, but I love it. Occasionally I write it as Z311y. But it's a tad annoying to the eye that way.

That is an AWESOME name! I wish that was my name!
I like mine, still. I think it will always be my pen name. Hopefully I will always like it. I kinda wish I put a period at the end, though, after my username when I was registering, because I always sign my name with a period at the end. But can you do that? Iono...don't remember. Maybe I tried to but it wasn't allowed?
But I wouldn't see you any other way, Shalot! ;) Sorry you're frustrated, though.
NikolaiI

I like mine - I created it because Nikolai was taken, and I thought, Nikolai Ilyitch! Then later I learned of Nikolai I, as in Nikolai the first, and I thought that was really cool...
I always liked Shalot, and sort of wondered about it. See, it's mysterious, and it sounds good, so you can't complain about it!! I always pronounced it "shallow," I hope this doesn't make you like it even less! Pronounced to rhyme with 'zealot' it does sound a little strange...no, no, I simply like it, that's all, it's a nice name!!

I am one of those who like the name "Shalot", too :) I think it sounds beautiful.
I kind of like my username. It's not very creative, since it's just my first name, middle name and the first letter of my last name, but at least it is not like something I really like now but probably will hate later.

Shalot, your user name is fine. Don't change it. What if you were Granny?
Makes me think of my old wrinkled Granny when she was 86!
Sometimes I wish I'd picked something else, but since all the grandkids call me Granny, it's ok. Anyway, it fits me.

Mine's just my name and last initial. Creative, huh?
People elongate it and make it Beccaboo. D'oh.

I do too, it sounds very sophisticated and European. It's like a completely different name!
I've never thought of the name Idril to be particularly pretty but I love it nonetheless. It's been my username for years on several sites, I think I would have an identity crisis if I used anything else. There was a time when I used Erendis...also a Tolkien name...and I liked that one too but not as much as Idril.
Weisinheimer
01-19-2008, 01:33 PM
sometimes, I wish I had picked a shorter username, but I really do like weisinheimer. It's a nickname that a few ppl in rl call me. And a few months ago i found out that weisinheimer is another term for a smart aleck, which kinda fits my personality, so that makes me like it more.

A "term for a smart aleck" is how I know weisinheimer. What other definition is there?
Weisinheimer

weisinheimer is sort of similar to my last name, just a different, less-German-sounding ending. My last name is kinda hard to pronounce so one of my teachers didn't even try, and called me all sorts of different weisin... names. Weisinheimer was my favorite.

My username is used in many sites, I don't particulary enjoy it but I appreciate how strange it is. It was picked extremely randomly, but grew to have a meaning.
I like Shalot!
