Poe - Morella

Hi,

I have a couple of questions on Poe's Morella:

1. How does Poe create Morella's femininity?

2. Why does he feel so threatened by Morella? (is it only her intellect?)

3. Do you know anything about the "unfathomable abyss"? (which the narrator sees in Morella'S eyes; 5th paragraph)

4. What is the "dead philosophy" which Morella "rakes from the ashes"? (3rd paragraph)

Anything will be helpful, please! If you know anybody who has done scientific research on this, please tell me!:)

1. I think it's through the setting-- the bed, tapestries, etc...

umm...I haven't done "scientific research", whatever that means, on the story, but would gladly help if the questions weren't this specific. I'll need to read morella again to answer completely..

2. Because she believes in myths....has hopes, dreams in which he is enticed but cannot follow.
3."unfathomable abyss" it is that which exists within one who is lost or fallen
4. "dead philosophy" If you have ever studied history, especially through various religions and cults... there is plenty of dead philosophy

I have not done scientific study on this but read only what i had to, to post for you..... I envy Poe for his ability to seek out the most horrific senses of ourselves. I understood immediately what your questions meant.
