Magic Realism

Hi everybody!:) i was just wondering if Anyone could help me with this topic, i am wondering if anyone has read the book "Like water for chocolate" and if they could help me with themes in this story and defining this literary movement (magic realism) ?
Anyone who knows anything about this subject, please help me!! it will be tremendously appreciated!!! thank you!!

Definition of magic realism: Writers who try to write like Borges :D
Anyways, it is supposed to be a literature where the characters are part of o fantastic world that is at sametime the actual world, not another dimension alike Neverlands or Narnia. They react as if all that happens to them is equally real since the usual theme is discussion of what is real and what is not.

I was wondering has anyone read this book or know about how it relates to magic realism? Examples of magic realism in the book? Also, does anyone know any other books that contain magic realism or are from the magic realism time period? If anyone could help, please do! thanks a bunch!!!

I bought it the other day but haven't gotten around to reading it.

I thought that magic realism was a genre of literature, rather than a certain time period? I could be wrong though. Some of the most noted magical realism authors are Borges, like someone earlier said, and also Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I believe Isabel Allende is too, but I've only read a few chapters so far in one book of hers so I'm not completely positive on that one yet.

Well essentially magic realism is when elements of fiction and of magic are combined in a book and often they are blended as if the "magical" part of it is part of real life. Like I said, I haven't read Like Water for Chocolate yet but this is what you should be looking for.
