Right, desperate times call for desperate measures? I've a party to go to, and cannot decide between pirate (triangular hat with plumage and all) or lady in distress (frills, hat, and puffs) So, here it goes, would you please all make my choice for me? :D I've posted the three lady in distress outfits i have available as options.

Dress one: Love love love the hat
http://www.kostumeudlejning.dk/image2/billedersep2006/historiske/borgfrue.jpg
Dress two: Well, i suppose this could be made into a pirate as well?

Dress three: Yes, i just like this dress, but am hating the bonnet.

So, favourites anyone?

Hey I love the dresses!
I chose the number 2 because I don't like the bonnet either in the third one, and I just prefer the second one, I like the colors and the fact that it reveals the shoulders, it's cute, and also I love the hat that goes with it.:)

Yeah, i think i've already got a wee bit of a soft spot for the second one as well. I'm thinking once i've rented the hat, i can figure out how it's made and provide myself with a decent copy.

I must agree that I am not a fan of the bonnet with that particular dress. It seems like an odd combination. But I do like the dress. I think the appropriate hairstyle for the time period of that dress would work out just fine.

Then I LOVE the first dress. That hat is great! I suppose I am favoring that dress more because I am currently working on one in that same style.

I would choose either one to wear, but if I HAD to make one choice, I guess I am leaning more towards the first one.

Oooh! I love wearing fancy costume dresses! I had a hard time between 1 and 3 but the hat was the decider. I've worn a bonnet with one of my costumes and it's not very comfortable. Then again, I live in Florida. The bonnet made me too hot.

So if i could find myself a decent looking hat, or even just nice hair and jewels the third would be nice... Hmm, need to work out what to do with hair, i'm not even a little bit good with hair.

Yes I think that even thought the three of them are beautiful, the second one is somehow more original than the others. And I like the modernity of the hat, it really looks nice.

Edit: eheh, I had not seen the other replies. We are all going to make you even more puzzled than you were before.:D

But is that what i should be going for? I too love the second one (would even wear it on a daily occasion) but womehow it just doesn't signal "Help, help, i'm being kidnapped by a bunch of brawdy villains!" on the other hand, it's going to get hot at that party, and it would be nice to have freedom of movement to dance... see... very very difficult choice! Since i will have to spend a load of money, i really want to be sure...

But do you really want to be a lady in distress? :p
Ah, I just love the second one. :)

*pout* no.... (bugger, it may very well end up as the second one at this point, come on the rest of you, talk me out of this!) :D

Ehehehe, you're going to have real trouble if you change your mind everytime someone proposes something new. :D :p

Well, i've always had trouble being decisive with things like this. whenever you want too many things you know... (always falling in and out of love as well. Wait, maybe I really am a lady in distress?)

I like the 1st and 3rd but have to go with 1 because of the hat.

I like the first one - but no need to be distressed.
Tip up the side of the hat a bit
Throw away the handbag
Stick pistol down your bodice

I can see why you're indecisive on this issue. But I'm always indecisive. I like the first one the best, though. Beautiful. Are you sewing it? Good luck if you are...and post pictures!

Exactly! I like that idea.

Depends what you really want.

If you want to look gorgeous and elegant, like a wealthy lady, kidnapped and waiting for hubby to pay the ransom, go for #1. You will, however, probably feel uncomfortable and hot in it all night long. (But I love that hat ...)

If you want to be a pirate after all, take #2 minus the hat. It's terrible. Just wear your own hair or a scarf round your head. This costume will be more comfortable for a hot night.

Chava
01-09-2008, 08:48 PM
Yeah, the heat factor is an issue... but i do quite like the hat in number two as well ;)
hmm, i think number two may even provide a narative "I was one of those damsels in distress once, but then i went pirate, grrr"

BulletproofDork

Pirate, grrr! Hang all this distressed lady nonsense! :p

Okay, i've just talked to the costume lady, and frankly, due to my wallet i may end up going as a pirate... unless, and this is what she told me, they have no pirate boots my size. and i have nothing remotely 'pirate' as shoes...
Going to go try them all on tomorrow, which is fun in itself :)

Ehehehe, so we have had all this debate about which dress to choose for nothing? :D

Anyway, I hope you find a great costume with great boots. Keep hope! :p

Trust, me i'm going to beg her to give me a nice student discount, just so that i can spend a few evenings waltzing around in those wonderful dresses...Out of which i still can't choose one of course :) Maybe i'll take pictures when i try them, so we can have a final verdict :p

Of course you can choose a dress, you have chosen the number two. :D Believe me, I know you have chosen that one.:D
Yes, taking pics is a good idea.

I voted for dress 2 (with hat). It is not so much distressed lady as captured maid who beat the #%*& out of the captors and went off drinking.

Whats your colouring like Chava? because thats an important point, if you are anything like me the first one will be vcery  looking.

Haha, well, i think Kilted hit the nail :)
As for myself, i'm rather pale, with very blue eyes and murky blond, with natural highlights (gosh, i'm such a scandinavian... :))

Thanks for your advice all

Then I think the last one is best for colour... and like someone said.. forget the hat, head gear is not only cumbersome it makes you too hot too.
Put tou hair up nicley... get one of those fancy metalic headband things with little flowers or butterflies on them thread it into your hear and viola!
fancy hair do that actualy stays in place..

I voted then read over everything. I agree with some of the folk. Go for no.2. Its got that Paysan feel but the distressed/now pirate thing sounds good. With the hat of course.

Hmm... the second is a little quirky (in a good way) but I would go for number one. The hat rocks and the neckline is very elegant - it looks like something from a novel :)
Yep, number one.

No one reminds me of the dress that Kiera Knightly wears in Pirates one when she faints and falls into the sea....
Its very late 18th century in style though....

Chava
01-10-2008, 06:22 PM
I think the first is quite Roccoco, but yes it does actually look like Kiera Knightly's now that you mention it... Hmm

You should go as an exploited native, pick any country and see if there is something that fits the bill. Little chance there isn't.

I did consider this. In fact i was going to go as an indonesian native, but then i saw all th cool costumes,a dn decided to make a big deal of it ;) Anyway, when else does one get to wear multiple layers of dress?

Everyday if
you belive the Mars advert :p

But seriously if its themed colonialisim then you have to go with 3, 1 is too dinsy, 2 is cheating so yoiur option is 3....

:D

Right, the deal is signed and payed. I pick up the costume on friday. I will reveal only that we started out with dress two, but that it looks rather different in my version, which involves guns, knives and all sorts of fun. Also a wig and triangular hat. Oh this will be good fun. I'll post a picture when i get it one with make up and all the rest.
Cheers

Well here it is, the final outfit, without makeup, i'm still working on getting that right, but plenty of black, and blood red lips to come. Hope you like it, And thanks very much for your participation! (The images are clickable if you want a bigger photo, thought i'd save space)

The gun, very nice... i've been firing it all day

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh95/Mositiva/th_DSC_0001.jpg (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh95/Mositiva/DSC_0001.jpg)
I've started to walk pirate style, wide steps due to those boots, gives an impression of someone not used to standing on anything but a boat

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh95/Mositiva/th_DSC_0002.jpg (http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh95/Mositiva/DSC_0002.jpg)
You can't see it here, but i have a little monkey attatched to my belt.

So, for the rest of the evening, i'm going to read up on famous pirates to create a nice story and name for myself. Cheerio, and stay jolly.

nice, chava, but isnt the corset digging into your arms? it looks like its got sides from here...

Chava
01-18-2008, 05:55 PM
Nope, it's surprisingly comfortable actually, there are no metal bits in the corset, just material and leather strings ;)

I've been running around wig and all (even boots) since i picked it up to get the feel of it. Am totally loving it, and have decided to be Charlotte De Berry, feel free to look her up :)
