Cameo
We preen ourselves like Peacocks,
Strut our clothing, fine and new.
We want to be sure people hear the things we say,
And remember the things that we do.
We desire the respect of our fellowman
And even dare hope that they raise
A monument to tell the entire world
Of their undying praise!
But life is brief, so this you learn—
Pauper, Priest, Troubadour, King, or Hero:
Your appearance upon Life’s Stage—
Will be but a cameo…

Very well said, Pen. It's just the train stopping at a station.

I can't fault the sentiment, nor the wind-up, but it was like watching a pitcher go through an elaborate wind-up - only to toss me a soft ball.

I love the first four lines - it reminds me of Wilde and my Jules. (-: Nice poem, Pen. I noticed we have another "Dragon" online these days, btw. You have a brother, Pen? LOL

I loved it. I agree with Jerry about the soft ball, but it was still wonderful.

Magnificent, Pen. Very true indeed, and a beautiful way of putting it.
