Yes, the Ophelia from "Hamlet"...This poem was part of an (extra) scene I had to write, for an english project, last year. Sadly, my teacher ignored my project completely because she hated that I didn't make it look cute with colored paper and butterflies and stupid stuff like that. I'm still angry :flare: ... Oh well...
I sort of adapted it from Poe's poem, "Bridal Ballad":
I don't have a title since it was part of dialogue where ophelia starts singing...

He takes my hand and assures me
that I'll be happy now
and the wedding vows come off my lips
and none the thoughts foul
though lingering unfaithfulness--
no! I am happy now!

My ringed finger rests on crimson silk
after my spoken vow
my spirit admires the lady below
in the earthen tomb
My burning tears have dried now
in my self-laden sepulchre.

I really, really feel sad that my teacher didn't even read my project....I felt so useless. I'd like to share it with you guys because you guys are actually considerate and look at stuff before criticising...

I just finished reading Hamlet in school. I know what you mean about teachers ignoring everything that isnt consisting of colored paper and glitter. I really liked the new verses and I think your teacher is an idiot for ignoring them. I especially liked the last two line

Thanks oscar...I really appreciate it. You could really damage a student by neglecting them-- I had a phobia of english class from 6th-10th grade until I realized that my teachers were just BS-ing me, and wanted to focus only on the naturally talented students...I'm so happy because of the few teachers that actually acknowledged my existence (mind you, my classes consisted of less than 20 students, so it felt horrible thinking I was dumb and hopeless).
I wish they atleast told me where I went wrong. Thank God, I have the most awesome-est teacher who keeps challenging me in English this year..

I Ophel-4-ia!
I can't believe your teacher did that! Grrrrrr! It is amazing to me that one teacher can often make or break a student. It is clear you were not broken. You are a fighter. Glad your teacher is better this year.

You've done a wonderful job of capturing the feel of Shakespeare's language without going into a whole lot of phony Gadzooks and Odds bodkins! Way to go.
