I studied Spanish in highschool. Almost majored in it in college. When I hear Sublime's Caress Me Down, I can pick out some of the words. If you gave me a Spanish dictionary and grammar refresher I could probably write some really sh**** sentences. I wish I could speak Spanish.
How did you get the heart in your thread title? very neat.

Si! Indeed, I can speak a fraction of Spanish. Everyone here knows how. My mother was required to take up Spanish in college. It really is quite easy, yet I can't seem to construct a full sentence. I can only speak in a mix of Filipino and Spanish (considering that well, Filipino is based on Spanish). Maybe someday I'll learn to write and speak it fluently (like my mother). I'd really want to. Haha.
As of now, I can count to, well... infinity in Spanish. (that's how they're spelled in Filipino)

Just because I look hispanic and have a hispanic last name, and took spanish all through high school doesn't mean I speak it does it?? (If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck doesn't mean it speaks duck...)
Actually I wish I knew spanish better then I do, it's just that there's no one around to practice with.

I don't know Spanish at all. Well, sometimes I can work out a couple of things because I know French and some Italian. But I really wish I knew it (except I will probably learn Portuguese next before Spanish for academic reasons).
Once in a while people speak to me in Spanish. And I have on clue what they are saying. ;) It would be cool if I could actually respond to them.

Nope. There's a set of numbers that is genuinely Filipino. It goes like this: Isa, dalawa, tatlo, apat, lima, anim, pito, walo, siyam, sampu.
It's based on the old Tagalog dialect (still spoken up to now, but not in its pure form).
Yet we may also consider the Spanish set of numbers as part of the Filipino language by "borrowing" them--using them in our language provided we spell it according to the Filipino "baybayin" (rules of spelling). It really is quite complicated. I've studied it before, though. ;)

I think it might depend on the keyboard, as in keayboard layout an all. Yours is probably a German keyboard, different from her American (I suppose) one. Although to confirm this theory we should check if the other Americans can do it. Or maybe it depends on the keayboard itself, as in the brand and all rather than the layout.

No hablo espanol, but wish I did. :( I can say a few easy phrases just from living in Southern California though, and I can read a little bit thanks to my knowledge of French, Italian and Latin. Someday when I'm not in a PhD program, though, I'd like to take a proper class and really be able to get around in Spanish.

Me encanta español y quiero aprender a hablar italiano.

I study Spanish at school...I wish I were better at it, but unfortunately I keep getting bad notes:bawling:
It is true that Spanish is very similar to Italian as far as the vocabulary and the sound are concerned(I mean, if you are Italian and you go to Spain, you will survive even if you do not know a single Spanish word!), still its grammar is at least as dificult as the Italian one, and that's probably what makes it difficult to learn even for us..
My friend has lived in Madrid for almost 2 years and now when she came back to Italy her Italian was so bad  I hope she gets used to speaking correct Italian again...;)

Try Russian  or German.
Maybe it's a bit like French, when I did it at school it was difficult to remember all the little grammar rules... but then even now I understand French less than I understand Spanish... without having ever taken Spanish... :crash:

 ahah...really??
Try Russian or German.
Actually, I have been studying German for 8 years now ( I love it!) and I have to admit that German grammar is rather hard to get along with, but at least it is..I don't know, the first word that comes to my mind is "tidier".. I mean, it may take you some time to understand and take up a certain rule, but once you have succeded, it becomes quite easy (I would say that the greater problem I have with German is the vocabulary..veeery long words and I have always doubts whether the article is der, die or das), whereas Spanish is full of exeptions and irregularities. It is a "flexible" and "malleable" language...this is what makes it so beautiful (and so close to Italian, I believe) but unfortunately also so difficult! :D
However, it is really a matter of personal disposition...
( a friend of mine and I attended a 2-week course of Russian-it was not supposed to last only 2 weks, but then they suspended it- therefore I can't say I studied it, can I?; Well, although we spent the afternoon just writing our names and stuff like that, I could understand that it is a very complex language and that I would probably have a rough time with it too!)

Cmq, off-topic...
