ON A LESS-TRAVELED ROAD
Life is a long, one-way street
that, often as not, takes the long way around.
Frost spoke of “The Road Less-Traveled By”.
I’ve been on it all my life. What’s the difference?
Then again, how could you tell any difference
when there is really nothing to compare it to?
Nothing. Something. Are they really the same?
“I think, therefore I am.” Or is it. “I am, therefore I think?”
Existence is like a soap bubble:
it’s pretty, but it doesn’t take much to burst it.
One thing about a less-traveled road:
there are fewer rest areas.
Oh, and don’t break down along the way.
“Less-traveled by”, remember? So who’s going to fix your car?

I hate to read the despondency in this, despite the home-truths.
Apropos the famous Cartesian aphorism, I have amended it somewhat:
"I think, therefore I am." Descartes
"I think, therefore I am Descartes." Newman

I like your poem, the questionning tone of it. I especially like the last two stanzas.

Chilling poem Pen. The Road Less Traveled was my husband's favorite poem. I think he may have liked yours even better.

Life can be defined in a million or zillion ways and it's never ending. Your way touched my heart Pen. So true that one can feel how one had gone through by reading your poem. Keep on rocking this forum with your strong poems. :thumbs_up

Very touching and emotional but quite well-written, Pen!

This part really brought some bad old memories to me, can relate to it. My most favourite part from the poem!

Love this poem. Most people don't think, yet they are. What to do about that? "God thinks, therefore we are". Anyhow, I feel your pain, brother. I'm sorry you're hurting.

The text is simple, but the poem is like an onion and you can peel the layers off of it to reveal something you missed before. I love this pen.
