I read Blindness, very enjoyable. What should I go for next?

I read All The Names and thought it was quite good.

Not The Stone Raft. It was a complete let down after Blindness, I didn't even finish it.

"Baltasar and Blimunda first hooked me on Saramago."

Me too, the guy is an absolute genius.

OK, so I'm done with The Gospel and Baltasar. Is his later work as good?

Saramago... now there's a truly great, wonderful writer. My two favorite books: The lyear of the death of Ricardo Reis and History of the Siege of Lisbon. All the Names is also a great book, and of course, The Gospell according to Christ.
You won't regret reading this great man and writer!

Baltasar and Blimunda first hooked me on Saramago.

That's the first and probably the last book I've read by Samarago. It wasn't because I didn't like it, but because his other books aren't translated on Bulgarian. It's a pity, I loved it :) I especially like his style of writing. It was interesting with these extremely long sentences. I remember there was one that was a page and half in my edition of the book.

Blindess was a truly terrifying book... it was very unsettling. Though I got the impression that, towards the end, the horrific truth Saramago felt in the apocalyptic scenario he had created was too overwhelming.

That said, I don't care much for him as a writer. He has a contrived, dense writing style that seems clumsy and reads like a heavy box falling down a staircase. Although, if I were to recommend another work of his, it would have to be The Double. More enjoyable, even, that Blindness.

I read only Blindness and it was very annoying, have to give many break, and started a second book at the same time just for decreasing the impact.
I have another book, original name "objecto quase", but this is quite average book.

Some people say Saramago is a "difficult" writer simply because of the long, convoluted sentences. I have to disagree with that statement. Once a person falls into the cadence and rhythm of his writing, it just flows effortlessly. Absolutel genius.

But it is hardly justified, is it? He's so clumsy, at times. He's terribly convoluted, but unecessarily so.

interestingly, and excitingly enough, blindness is being made into a movie that comes out this august.

Blindness, All the names and The cave are a trilogy on today's society, so I would go for All the names next.
