One of my favorite poets is Edgar Allen Poe. His "The Raven" is a very mystical piece. It left me wondering. I felt like it needed more.

Broken Dreams

As children bring their broken toys,
With tears for us to mend,
I brought my broken dreams to God,
Because He was my friend.

But then instead of leaving Him,
In peace to work alone,
I hung around and tried to help,
With ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried,
"How could you be so slow?"
"[Name]," He said,
"What could I do? You never did let go."

The only way that it made me feel like I wanted more was in the sense that I wish Poe had written more poems on this level. I find his stories to be generally far better. I might add that Poe's intention, as he outline's in one of his essays on composition (in which he uses The Raven as an example, I believe) is to convey a sense of atmosphere or mood. It is not to create a narrative that is neatly wrapped up. As such he leaves the work open ended... we are wondering what happened before and where it goes from here... but the mood it sets is wonderfully evocative.
