Hi guys,

I'm new here and in need of desperate help.

I've two papers due by 8th. 1000 word each. And i'm feeling pretty clueless. It would be a great great thing if you people please help me out and just guide me.

The topics are:

1. The issue of bad writing in Pope and Swift.
I've read gulliver's travels and the rape of the lock and can read the tale of the tub and dunciad so any ref from there can be very useful. I just need a basic guideline as to how i should approach these and it will be very helpful.

2. The picaresque novel of the 18th century.
Have read tom jones and huck finn.

I would really appriciate any help you can give me.

Thanks a lottttttttttt!!!

.... The issue of bad writing ...

Welcome to LitNet UpasnaK :) Maybe you could clarify the above quoted?? I don't understand...stylistically 'bad'? thematically 'bad'?

Huck Finn is 19th century, I'm afraid

Mark Twain created Huck Finn for his 1876 novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and then had him narrate his eponymous novel. Huck Finn also appears in and narrates Tom Sawyer Abroad (1894) and Tom Sawyer, Detective (1896).

hum, why don't you quote some definitions of "picaresque novel" and give some historical info about the development of picaresque novels as an introduction and then you investigate whether Tom Jones is a picaresque novel, giving some examples from the book.

QUOTE]

I really wonder about this. Does that refer to Pope and Swift criticizing the writing of others, or what? Jonathan Swift was one of the best writers in the history nof the English language, and Pope isn't far behind. I could argue that the longer version of the "Rape of the Lock" was too wordy. I personally prefer the shorter, earlier version.

Hi guys
Thanks for replying.

About the pope swift question even i m mighty confused. I too dont understnd what bad writing is the question talking about? How can these writers be "bad"? I did think that may be the question refers to the commentry these two writers did on bad writers or hack writers of their times? Could that be it? I know pope did comment on the hack writers but dont knw about swift?

So very confused what stand and direction to take on this.

SleepyWitch thankyou so much i'll do this very thing and post whatever i'm able to write for all your comments on it.

Thanks a lot guys any help would be really a life saver for me.

Maybe it would be better to put out your request for help a little sooner. Waiting until the last minute rarely produces good results - in anything.

Also, are you by any chance just taking things verbatim off the internet? That might not go over real well with your teachers.
