Wanderjahr

Sing ho for the life of a traveling man, who wanders where he will!
The time must come for settling down but now there are sights to see!
I shall wander then from kith and kin and have adventure and a thrill!
And give little thought to the debt I must pay when the year ceases to be.
I shall pack my things into an old valise, for a man like me needs little,
And to save on money use my legs to carry me upon this jaunty journey!
I must keep my meals and lodgings down also, count each tiny tittle…
Oh, bosh! I can’t have fun if I must always be in such a worry!
Tell you what. Tonight I’ll dine on the best, then suddenly find a fly…
And I’ll be snug and warm you know then in a room with money saved.
Tomorrow, it will be sad, you know, to find a hair in my shepherd’s pie,
They will want to keep it quiet, room is free, and I’ll get me a shave.
Oh, a man of my invention can drag his money out the entire year!
And I shouldn’t be surprised to end up with interest to begin my job my dear!
