What's New Got To Do With It
What's new got to do, got to do with it,
Is there really anything new,
Isn't it all just a constant cliche,
Aren't we all overdone, overused, overwrought,
our edges dulled, dazed and confused,
full of those dreaded second-hand emotions?
They tell me there is a new year coming,
I will be watching for it with bubbly on my lips,
cheese and crackers in my tummy,
music in my ears, a dance around the room,
fireworks sharpening my edges, awake now,
a welcomed renewal, born again if you will.
For who am I to take away their firsts,
first breath, first thought, first love, the first time,
Someone, somewhere is experiencing something new,
Through them, I know, that new has everything to do,
to do with it, that this year, this day, this hour,
this minute, this second gives me hope anew.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10, Holy Bible, New King James Version)
ampoule, December TwentyNinth, TwoThousandSeven
And the same passage (Psalm 51:10), plus a little more, from The Message by Eugene H. Peterson (I love this)...
"Soak me in your laundry and I'll come out clean, scrub me and I'll have a snow white life.
Tune me into foot-tapping songs, set these once-broken bones to dancing.
Don't look too close for blemishes, give me a clean bill of health.
God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Don't throw me out with the trash, or fail to breathe holiness in me.
Bring me back from gray exile, put a fresh wind in my sails!"
Happy New Year everyone!
