Hello Everyone,
I was just looking for a place to share my interests in writing, poetry, and reading. This felt like a nice place to start.
I'm no expert when it comes to literature. I have a primarily mathematics/science background. I've always enjoyed writing but I feel that I haven't been reading as much as I should. I can blame the public school system but that won't get me anywhere.
I'm currently doing a fun experiment with literature. I take famous authors like George Orwell, John Steinbeck, F. Scott Fitzgerald and find two books from each. One book is a famous book and the other book is not-so-famous. I read the famous book as if he were an unknown writer to see if there is any merit to the author's fame. Then I read the not-so-famous book to see if the author is a one hit wonder or a great genius of the time. It's a fun experiment and I'm finding that there is really some truth to this immeasurable field called literature (from a mathematics/science background). The book I'm reading now is "This Side of Paradise" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
I'd like to improve my writing but it's difficult to get an objective opinion. I can give my friends pieces of my writing to critique but it's hard to tell if compliments are real when they come from friends (biased parties). So, after doing some web-searching, I found this place and here I am now introducing myself.
