The ever so slightly bent back
of the girl who serves you
your espresso reminds you
of some other way in which
she might be bent in service
to you but, for now,
you dip your face to the dark,
sweet steam rising from your cup
and thank whatever powers that be
that not all of life is sexual!

Did you go to a new coffee shop today or has the service improved?

PrinceM, your poetry is so very reminiscent of that of Irving Layton ... so out there, so real.
On the other hand, a very close friend of mine works at a java bar -- and I got mad thinking that someone is thinking this of HIM! ;)

it's not?
how do you know if her hands when cupping the porcelain didn't feel a bit of a tingle? perhaps she felt your keen eye on her? perhaps she recalled the heat of her...silky sundipped flame? I love your observations, I wish I were as able to write poetically about what I see, you are a wonderful writer.

She pulled her elbows in to her sides
To give her assets the best advantage
As she leaned forward to fill his half empty cup.
She saw that he looked and smiled.
He knew he was caught
“Is there anything else I can get for you?”
She asked coolly without raising up.
“I…I’m good, for now.” was all he could say.
Modesty doesn’t pay the rent.

How deep and profound your ideas are.I agree that love is there in service and of course everything is not just sex we are interested in. There are other values too.
I found your ideas very profound indeed.

Now, how on earth did I miss this? Aside from the pleasure I got from it, it reminded me of a glorious scene from Peter Matthiessen's At Play in the Fields of the Lord in which Father Xanthe deals with his customary morning soft-boiled egg, a scene that becomes more and more apparent as a vicarious act of masturbation, cruelly interrupted when his vindictive servant breaks in just before the climactic moment, asking “Is there anything else you need?”, to which the Father replies hoarsely, "No, nothing..."
