Rechauffé

Take care what you say you don’t know whom you offend,
Despite the respect that you have and you have always shown.
There are times that one’s wording may lead others to different ends,
Into darkness you did not mean instead of the lamp you had shown.
We forget that others are reading the lines that we inscribe here,
And that multitude of races, religions, tastes, lifestyles, loyalties:
Come and they share with us our lives, become friends, fond and dear,
And we for want of a little charity in words may hurt those in whose lives we tried hard to be.
Words are our way of talking, communication, but often we let sometimes slip so freely,
We get down, we get hurt, and sometimes we blaze and get angry and demanding.
But the same words that can break hearts, can soothe and begin the healing
And just when you think that friendship is over, light breaks through with understanding.
I may have had to recap everything and write from somewhere besides my mind,
But for all of my friends on the LitNet, a little apology. I don’t know everything. I love you all! Be kind!

Aw, okay Pen, just as I was about to review some poems on here and say what I really think...but after reading your poem, I will refrain from such this evening to honor your message, so true, so true.

What a sweet poem to have shared with us. We can all learn something from your example. And to quote myself ,"you Rock, sir!" :)

precisely.. i can;t tell you how many times i've screwed myself into bad situations because of that...

this is so much more touching than just, "Watch what you say."

words from the wise. But I want to make sure you know that you do not need to apologize to me. I hope you saw that.

and Jon, I think most of us would love to hear your true thoughts, as long as they are not cruelly spoken. I always feel that these things are directed at me since I am the least of want to be poets on a site with many really wonderful poets. I can take it!

Oh motherhubbard I definitely didn't direct that toward you, I was just being goofy. Let me say this, I strive for a raw honesty in reviews. I'd love to believe that 'most of us' desire the truth. Okay.

That reminds me of Jack Nicholson in the movie, A Few Good Men where he says, "You can't handle the truth!"

I'll keep my eyes peeled for your work, Mother. Happy NY. :)
