So much animosity,
And everyone mourns it’s presence
Is your conviction worth this pain?
How can you be so certain you are right?

Families and even nations are broken by such causes
Opposing sides stiff backed and proud-
Each claiming the higher moral ground
Nobly trying to do what is right- for everyone.

It is a timeless struggle…for rightness and power.
The wind battles against the mountain and
The spirit wars against the body.
Why? What purpose does it serve?

We could have been brothers and stood strong together,
But there is no equality, respect or compassion.
Can you see that this struggle for power is your weakness,
Or are you blind to your own folly?

Let me step forward and admit I am wrong, shamefully, miserably so.
I hope to improve, but I must learn truth for myself.
I’m thankful that I do not bear the burden of perfection
My humanity is heavy enough.

Thank you. Not really what everyone else is thinking of this time of year so I didn't expect a response.

Ah, but you do want to right mon amei, you just grow weary of fighting. Something tells me I have caused this myself. I beg forgiveness. Overstepping of bounds I do sometimes. I find it difficult to not argue. The religious section is my bane. I know it and still I go sometimes. And it ends badly. Sorry

Oh Pen, not you at all. To be honest I would love to be right, but I would rather have peace. It is a family situation that inspires the poem- not my own family, but close enough.

It's a moving poem and I wish the one who needs to see it would. Maybe you could send it to his house and hope he understands. Brothers are meant to be close and it's sad to see when they arent'. You've said/done what needed to be said and I'm proud of you, Kiddo.

The last line reminds me of "The Unbearable Lightness of Being."
